Having had been a fan of Monday Night Football for decades, certain games you can recall where you were when you watched them. That game between the Giants and Redskins was one of them for me. And that was one of the most gruesome occurrences I'd ever seen, and for ABC to keep showing the replay over and over and over and over again while Theismann was being tended to on the field was just sickening.
Will always remember the LT reaction. Shock, horror and then furiously waving for medical assistance.

Also recall going to football practice the next day especially hard.
I was 16. I saw it live. I almost threw up.

Great read. I particularly like that they made viewing the video optional.

The most gruesome thing I ever personally witnessed:

High school football practice. Tall, rangy QB drops back to pass. Short, fireplug linebacker flies through a hole in the middle of the line and plants his facemask in the kid's groin at about 40 mph. Kid lets loose a barrage of obscenities that I'm sure still lingers in a cloud about eastern Birmingham, and hits the ground in a fetal position.

Coaches uncurl him, reach down the front of his pants, and pull his cup out in three pieces.

Took the fight right out of everybody. They should have dismissed us right then, because we were done.
I still can't watch that video.
Currently, we are seeing the video of the high school QB who was hit, taken to the sidelines waving his hand to show he is OK, then collapses and later dies becoming the third high school football fatality of this young season. More than a few parents are said to be reconsidering their son's participation in the game..
Watched it live and damn near threw up. It still makes me sick today to watch that.
Me, either!
