Why does RA continually refute intelligent coaching and go for it on 4th down? 1-7 was the conversion rate on Saturday and for the season we are 7-19, 37%. Our opponents are 5/8 which is 62%. Just reckless risk taking.

In 2014 we were 10/26 for the whole season, so what is it about this year's team that says that this offense should be taking so many risks with field position and momentum? At what point do you just take the next 32 yard difference from the kicking game?

I can see going for it when you have a loaded backfield with both West and Victor, like we had in 2013 when the Tigers converted 72% of their 4th down gambles. 72% is a great number. In 2012 it was 14/22 and in 2011 it was 15/25.

At some point you really have to question RA and his skills at game management as it could be argued that his risk taking keeps average opponents in the game which gives them a chance to hang around and win.

In 6 seasons + 4 games of a 7th, Ambrose is now 38-39 as head coach, a game under .500 as the Towson head coach. 3 winning seasons, 3 losing seasons, and 2-2 this year. He is 29-10 with an NFL running back on the roster and 9-29 without Terrance West. He's never recruited a quarterback of any merit to the campus, and fell into Grant Enders as a transfer after initially passing on him out of high school after Gordy had offered him.

7 games left this year, 4 home, 3 away.

Rhode Island and Delaware should be wins as both teams are awful. So that gets this team up to 4 wins.

JMU and Villanova are likely losses, so that brings the total to 4 losses.

This season boils down to 3 games.

At Stony Brook on October 17
At Maine on November 7
At William & Mary on November 14

Conventional wisdom says we should beat Stony Brook and Maine, lose to William & Mary, and finish 6-5. However, with an unconventional head coach taking risks that are not paying off, injuries piling up, it makes it a crap shoot every time we step out on the field. Regardless of 6-5 or worse, at best RA is a .500 coach through 7 years on the job all with more support from the University than any coach has ever had in football, or any other sport in Towson history.07-coffee3

1 win if lucky stony brook is loaded on defensive side, and udel is getting better and has experienced d line. ambrose is costing us game. his act is getting a bit tiring at this point 9-29
What is Pat Skerry's record without Jerrellle Benimon? I'm guessing a worse percentage than 9-29. That's the most ludicrous argument in the history of these boards. We finally have two pretty successful coaches, who have helped us get into postseason for the first time in 20 years or more and we crucify one of them because they have a bad record without one of their star players.

You can't win without talent and while Peter Athens wasn't a star and Enders was not picked up the first time around, they were still better than #4. If Rob continues to lose in the next few seasons (hopefully not), his ultimate downfall will be not finding a quarterback who can carry an offense. West was special but nobody gives credit to that line, which was awesome. Go back and look at the numbers of Dom Booker and Tremayne Dameron, who averaged 5.5 yards per carry in 2011. In 2012, Booker averaged 6.8 yards per carry and Sterling Phifer averaged 5.6 ypc. So while West was super-talented, that line was more productive than talented. But they were very good and coached up by John Donatelli with assistance of strength coach Jeremy Pick. I think we're living and dying by developing another strong, bigger and more talented and athletic line. With all the injuries, it doesn't look like they'll develop as well as we hoped this season.

I know, I ramble because I love this program, with all their warts and issues. I just see the forest through the trees, hoping we'll find a quality qb one day to take us to the next level because we'll probably never have another T-West.
I agree that the line was a big part of the success in 2011, 2012 and 2013. I am disappointed that we have not been able to build on that success with consistent talent coming in and developing. Back to back losing seasons after a trip to the NCAA Championship game is unacceptable for me. It's not like the schedule last year was daunting, and to lead off the home season at Unitas with a loss to Central Connecticut State was one of the worst losses I have seen and that dates back to the late 70's. Rhode Island was a close second.

The main point of my point was not the record without West, it was the lack of consistency in recruiting, player development, play calling, special teams, defense, quarterback play.

If we were recruiting based off a strategic road map, we would have less personnel issues when the injuries come, and they come to every program.

If player development was taking place, we would not have the issues at QB. 7 recruiting classes and not a single true freshman difference maker at that position. 0-fer.

The going for it on 4th down stuff is out of control. That's play calling for me, along with not being able to adjust the game plan based on available personnel.

Special teams are consistently average, even in the years we were winning.

Defense is average to below, again, but that too is on recruiting, game plan, and development.

Any gains that were made with the 2011, 2012 and 2013 seasons are now going to be losing steam with fans other than students, with media, with donors. You now have one poor season and potentially another crummy campaign back to back, which means 2/3 of the returning students on campus next year will have no frame of reference to winning football. That's the trees of the forest in full recognition.

Meanwhile the chatter about moving to FBS continues, which makes not a lick of logical sense.

one of the better posts. as brash and critical i am of the coaching, what 82 said is what I mean and see with this program. btw skerrys record is 13-51. and you know im just as critical if not more so on skerrys xo's and development.
