They are playing UMass on Saturday. My guess is he would root for Notre Dame.

The Pope is a Jesuit. If he were to watch an American football game (which he won't) it would be Boston College, not Notre Dame 04-cheers

Hopefully he will be busy watching the Syracuse game. We need a miracle.
There are a number of high schools named after popes, I'd guess he'd be watching those games.

Would hate for him to be disappointed when Northern Illinois comes to Boston and upsets those Jesuits.

And Notre Dame prefers its independence 03-wink
The Pope would probably see it for the excess it is.

Are you trying to say that Jesus Christ can't hit a curveball? 05-mafia

That would be my guess as well. And as we all know, the Pope isn't Irish. So I see no reason for the Pope to have any connection to or about Notre Dame, other than Notre Dame fan's wishes that it were so.

This whole thread is a bit silly, isn't it?

What ND fans expressed any wishes that the Pope have any connection to ND?
Fox Sports reported: Notre Dame is 4-0 all-time while the pope is in the United States with victories over Georgia Tech in 1979, Michigan and Michigan State in 1987 and Washington in 1995, all during visits by Pope John Paul II.
It is possible that he has never watched an American Football game. Now if we get a Pope O'shaughnessy, different story.
I heard that the pope is a big Miami Canes fan :/
Is it safe to assume he's not an Arizona State or Duke fan?
