1. Were the kickoffs that went out of bounds intentional?
2. In the 4th when we were 4th a foot at the 3 yd line and our guy jumped off sides, had we scored would he have gone for 2?
1. Yes
2. No. We were down by 10 at that point.
On the radio he said the kick offs out of bounds were NOT intentional.

Why do you say they were?

I thought they were intentional because they kept happening. Sure, if you can kick the ball into the corner it's harder to get a long runback, but it's still possible. Seemed like we could have gotten more of them in bounds if we weren't trying to kick it out of bounds. I guess not.
I thought they probably were intentional. I I don't think I have a problem with it if they were. Just saying, he was asked, and he said they were NOT intentional. And didn't sound happy when he said it.
this was from the OSU forum, suggests that it was intentional based off someone close to NIU

The kick-offs being out of bounds were intentional, Coach C high-fived kicker on the last one coming off the field.

They looked pretty damn intentional (I mean, one almost made it into the stands), and if they were intentional I'm perfectly fine with it. Heck, the goal could've been to try and kick them out just inside the goal-line or to get them to that corner of the field to where Carey saying they were "not intentional" technically wouldn't be an outright lie.

Touchbacks go to the 25; kicks OB go to the 35. Odds are their returns would've put them somewhere between the 25-40 (with a chance that they could always run one back), so why not just limit the risk in that aspect of the game and give it to them at the 35?

I agree with your analysis. And I think it proved to be a good move. Having them take it a t the 35 did not end up hurting us. One long return could have.

Yea if they were intentional it seemed like a decent idea to me. Chances are they would have gotten some very good kick returns anyway.

Totally agree. When the kicks went out of bounds, I was happy. Our kick return coverage has been decent, but why give them the opportunity - especially with how our D was playing.
Remembering the impact of the kick-offs returned for TDs by Marshall and Arkansas, I was all for kicking out of bounds.
Yep, it was intentional.

1. Probably
2. Not in that situation. He'd have kicked the XP and made it 20-17.

off a little on my timing, lets fast forward on last possession, score a TD, go for two. Trying to elicit wisdom on what you would do. I would go for 2

Don't know. My guess is if there's less than 30 seconds on the clock, they go for it, just because there's so little time remaining.
Yeah, I think Carey high-fiving the kicker should put an end to this question.

Thank you.

I'm pretty sure Carey admitting it was INTENTIONAL would be frowned upon. But sounds like he busted himself if he was giving high-fives...03-lmfao
