Toledo plays poorly at home, beats an unranked opponent by 7, loses almost all votes and drops from #30 to #45.

Ohio State plays poorly at home, beats an unranked opponent by 7, gains votes and stays at #1.

What a farce.
Who cares about the rankings? Let's get a MACC and a Bowl win.
AP we gained votes and hold #30 and have a good spread between us and #31... The only teams that moved behind us were Auburn and Temple. A couple probably jumped. Still we have 36 and it takes 135 to be in the current AP 25.
I guess I was preparing for a drop in votes. The Toledo victory was less than impressive. We should have won that game by 21 points in my opinion.
Ohio State lost 17 of its first place votes, and 33 points overall. But it is of supreme unlikeliness that we play them this year so it's kind of silly that so many of us here are worried about them or even following them if they aren't fans.

We lost 3 votes in the Coaches' poll, but they're the ones still placing Auburn in the top 25, so they're a comic book to me, plus they don't really have any influence in the BCS poll (or whatever they're calling it these days) so why worry?

There wasn't a lot of help from the lower part of the top 25 this week, which is what we'll need in order to make it into the rankings. Just keep winning and it'll take care of itself.
No, seriously who cares about rankings. I'm glad we lost votes. Every time we end up getting ranked, that ranking gets into the players' heads and we end up losing the very next week. Plus, our win last night was a rather ugly win.
No wonder it made zero sense. I just checked again. ESPN screwed up the web site and initially had the Coaches Poll results listed as the AP Poll.
Pretty much agree with everyone else on this.
1) We didn't play nearly well enough last night to gain any votes.

2) When we have been ranked (the few times its happened in my lifetime) we come out & screw the pooch.

3) A MAC Championship is really where our focus should be.

4) The "big boys" will try as hard as they can to prevent a G5 school from being in the top 20 (or even 25) as the season progresses.

5) Ohio State only held onto #1 because Bama lost. Buckeyes were given a far too competitive game by NIU for them to be #1 (and that's not meant as a slam at the Huskies).
My feeling that Toledo's OT win did much less to lower the poll voters' opinion of UT than did Arkansas's convincing loss to Texas Tech which made our "phenomenal" upset of last week look much more pedestrian and much less impressive.

IF UT keeps winning, then they will slowly move up in the polls by attrition as teams above them lose. However, over the next month or so a single loss with probably be enough to ensure no national ranking for this team this year.
Yeah, Arkansas was a 10 or 11 point favorite at home again, and got whooped. I haven't seen any media report on last night's game use the "we were lucky" narrative that all of us have been saying. No mentions of our receivers having historically bad hands. They weren't watching. Nobody was watching. When MAC teams make it to the top 25, it's usually because all of the other teams in front of them lose. That's why we just need to keep winning.
We are getting votes in week 3/4. I'm happy and I don't think anymore needs to be said. Keep winning and we'll keep climbing.
As stated;

It the Arkansas loss to Texas Tech in Fayetteville that hurt Toledo's vote tally. so.....

Just Win Baby, Just Win!!!!!!! 04-rock
The only way Toledo cracks the top 25 is if they remain undefeated in the regular season. After this weekend, they won't have a chance for more votes until they face Northern Illinois.

That's life in the MAC.

I don't know !! If UT can knock off a pretty good ASU team Saturday, and start rolling through the MAC schedule with some decisive wins, maybe a top 25 ranking would be justified...

That's simply not true. Of the g5's that have started undefeated in past seasons, most havent been ranked until later weeks because they havent played tough schedule's. Ours looks awesome compared to say Marshall last season.

When teams start losing we will get more votes for lack of undefeated and one loss teams ahead of us. I bet it takes no longer than after Kent to get ranked if we barely beat stAte, BSU, and the Flashes. If we blow anyone out it should be sooner. There will always be teams to jump in because they are p5s who knock off other top 25 p5. Its rarely those we have to worry about. Its more so about Mizzou, BYU, Tennessee, Northwestern, etc falling out shooting us up in the rankings. 10 of 61 voters had toledo in the top 25. Once viable options start to lose our votes will go up.

Again stAte is very good.... This wont be easy.
Northwestern and Mizzou will be losing sooner rather than later, which will help
Agree w UTFans. Other teams losing help if we keep winning. Beating a BG team on the road would help if they can turn their point a minute offense into some wins before we play them.

What a farce.

But you can't look at things in a vacuum like that. You have to look at the rest of the teams and their results.

#2 and #6 lost this week. There are undoubtedly some votes from these teams that will flow to O$U.
As long as they keep winning votes will come in. Combo of record and others falling out. Don't need a lot of points just need to win and they will be forced to vote for you.

Getting votes this early is huge. Granted NIU didn't beat a ranked team but coming off 2012 I think Toledo has more votes now than NIU did in 2013 after 2-0 start.

Also, doesn't matter if Ark and ISU end up with bad records (not saying they will) the votes will come cuz there is a 0 in the L column. Congrats on the win and good luck until the November match up. This week is big too for MAC access bowl purposes.
