Full Version: Some positives tonight

Offense played penalty free in the second half ( best I recall since my power went out less than an hour before kickoff and the local bar closed early in the fourth quarter)

Special teams played very, very well

DJM Continues to get it done

OL did not give up a sack nor a QB hurry

The fans stayed until the end and their pouring onto to the field to celebrate the win was a delight to see.
I like all your points. How about a shoutout to our true freshman kicker Vest and our punter Ellis. Vest had some clutch field goals tonight and Ellis seems to have significantly improved from last season. Gotta love the play of DJM. As for the Oline, I believe this is the second game in a row they haven't given up a sack. That speaks for itself. They'll keep getting better the more games they play.

I believe that would be included in NM's special teams play.

That also includes the kickoff and punt coverage units. And Coach Campbell's time out to ice ISU' place kicker. WHEW!

And yes the OL has not given up a sack YTD
All very strong positives. At the same time, the OL had difficulty opening holes. It was an even match-up along the line IMO but agreed, to not give up any sacks and few rushes with low on the holding penalties (there was one in first half wasn't there?) is amazing.
Is Hunt injured? Paper says he came out of game clutching his hamstring?

Yep. Heavily taped left thigh and never returned. Coach C says not obviously serious. However, bad pulls can take months to heal.

Hunt is always injured. Glad we have several excellent backs. I am sticking to my story; RB's are only as good as the big guys up front.
Just about anybody can jam the box and stop a run game. Unless you make them commit to defend the pass game you can't run the FB. If the Rockets had't dropped those passes it would have been a blow out.
Special teams has absolutely been the best part of this team so far this season. Kick coverage has been top notch. 2 blocked punts. Good kicking from a true freshman kicker. Decent KO returns from Di Johnson (I predict he will break one some time this year).
This may sound ridiculous at the college level, but I believe that Woodside throws a much softer and easier to catch football than does Ely. Maybe when we have wide open receivers, Ely needs to take a little something off his throws to make them easier to catch.
Ridiculous. If the ball hits both hands near your chest it should be caught. Ely has way more touch than Owens did.
In the post-game interviews, the ISU QB commented on how loud the student section was and said he thought that might have contributed to their false starts. Way to go students!

You weren't by any chance, a "big guy?" 03-razz

Seriously, I agree to a point. There was a point in the game though where even from the stands you could tell that Hunt had had enough and was going to get yards or die trying. That's a little special.

Hunt is leading the MAC in rushing yards per game.

It was definitely LOUD. The cheer that went up when Campbell said we'd take the student side for second OT was huge.

Probably penalty free in second half because after the opening td drive of the third quarter we had one -- yes, one -- first down the rest of the game until the second overtime.
