Quote:UC has been the better program lately, but remember that the prohibitive underdog RedHawks recently played the Bearcats much closer than expected. It was 14-0 in 2013, then 31-24 last year.

“I’ve figured out after two years that this game, it makes no difference how they played last week or how we played, it’ll be a good football game,” Tuberville said Tuesday, at his weekly media luncheon.

I'd like to hear a member of the media ask him, "Coach, can you please define 'good'?"
You would think all he has to do is look at scores of the previous 6 years prior to his tenure to realize that this game is much easier than he thinks.

2007 47 - 10
2008 45 - 20
2009 37 - 13
2010 45 - 3
2011 27 - 0
2012 52 - 14
Exactly. We know what a good game looks like....I think he believes fans either have short memories or they just look at the score and determine it was close so it must have been good....when in fact it was freaking awful.
Ahhh, the ol' rivalry cliche - when these two teams get together just throw out the records and let the chips fall where they may....it's anyone's game. In some ways, this is like a preemptive strike to soften the blow for poor play. How about, we're going to give Miami one hell of a game and give them everything we got after our performance last week. We expect to perform at the high level we know we're capable of as a team and go up there and get a hard fought win for our fans and our university.

Thing is, it's not a rivalry. Miami sucks.

I realize Tuberville can't come out and say that, but damn. As you highlighted, there's a lot of things he could've said that would have been less cringeworthy.

Jeez Rath can put the knife in and turn it anymore. If you have a replacement for Tubs post it.

I would be willing to take a chance on Coombs. At least I know he has passion and will do everything he can to turn this program into a national contender.

Really? A national contender? At least you post a name.

Trade Tubs for coombs, that would be a really big mistake.
This always seems to happen... The logic goes:
-If you don't like [Tuberville] then who would you hire?
-But nobody on this board will ever get to make that decision or really knows anything anyway...
-So, then you have to like [Tuberville] and shut up.

The fact is that any other name any of us could offer likely:
A) Is not available.
B) Unlikely to accept an offer to coach at UC.
C) Too expensive for UC.
and, again the killer...
D) Completely hypothetical because the job isn't open and we're not the ones who would hire the person anyway.

So the minute I respond to "Superfly" and say, "Well, I think Charlie Strong would be GREAT to replace Tuberville..." it would be met with:
A) Right now he's the coach at Texas,
B) You're dreaming if you think that he'd come to UC...
C) We could never afford him anyway, and
D) We already have a coach and you're not the guy who would hire him anyway.

Soooooo.... Just like Tuberville and keep quiet.

So bantering about "potential names" to qualify discontent really is a losing game.
I understand criticism of Tubs but man do I hate parsing his pressers. Anyone ever heard Marvin Lewis give an interview? The guy sounds like he has scripted responses for every single question. Why? Because no coach actually gives a damn about the media. You think anyone actually gets excited to repeat the same generic phrases every week?

Just pointing out another stupid quote that we lap up without question since he's been around a long time and sounds like a coach straight out of central casting.

Bingo. Get used to being asked that like its some great debate closer.

Logical next step will be snark by folks who are offended by criticism. Hell, I wish them well and wish they were right.

Bottom line is Tubby is not going anywhere. Like I said, he is tenured. He will be here cashing rather large checks regardless of outcome at least 4 more seasons until he turns 65.

That oatmeal I ate this morning just came back up my throat a little.
I actually don't mind Tuberville and I hope it works here with him.

I don't agree that we don't have great alternatives though. There are some REALLY good coaches still getting it done at smaller schools than ours for far less than we can offer. If you want a specific name, how about either Dino Babers or Matt Campbell up 75?
This is coach speak. They literally all do this. He's not going to strut into the presser, grab his crotch, and say, "We're gonna kick their roody poo candy asses.....if ya SMELLLLLLLLLL......WHAT THE TUBS......is cookin'!"
Tuberville is a great guy and would be fun to golf with or sit and talk football over some beers no doubt.

Tuberville as the head coach of UC football is another story.
