We have concluded another week of SBC football action, so just wanted to shoot out my quick thoughts/reactions on the week....

Biggest Surprise: Georgia State
After the Panthers blew it in week 1, I definitely left them for dead despite 11 games remaining on the season. However a completely different Georgia State showed up in Las Cruces and New Mexico State was playing catch up all night, down 11 early and 16 late in the game. Though the three turnovers almost spoiled the Panthers night, Georgia State was able to hang on to score their first conference AND FBS win. Now it seems Aggies are the ones down for the count early in the '15 season whereas Panthers have some fight left in them.

Biggest Disappointment: App State
First off, believe me New Mexico State could easily be here and Clemson is certainly the real deal-perhaps the fact that having so many returners back on offense, I bought into the hype but I certainly thought the Mountaineers could beat the 17 point spread. Despite the 38 point set back, I have no doubt Appalachian State will be able to bounce back and have another solid showing next week on the road against the Monarchs.

RC Cola Memorial Comeback of the Week goes to....Georgia Southern!!
After the very disheartening week 1 showing the Eagles had against West Virginia, Georgia Southern had a fantastic back bounce week and scored the Belt's first nonconference FBS win for the '15 season against a Bronco squad that was picked to wind up third in the MAC West (according to the MAC Coaches). With another seemingly tune up game coming next week against the Citadel followed by a another seemingly easy win coming in Moscow, Eagles look primed to jump out to another hot start to the '15 season.

Player of the Week: NMSU QB Tyler Rogers
Despite a losing effort, Junior QB Rogers had a very impressive effort against Georgia State last Saturday; he went 31/55 for 445 yards three touchdowns. He accounted for 21 of the Aggies 34 total points. If Aggies are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the 'Belt, it will come from the arms of Rogers I imagine.

The Early Storyline I'm Looking Forward to Next Week: SBC vs G5 Conferences
The first two weeks of the 2015 season, we've seen the belt go 1-2 against other g5 conferences, but in week 3 we'll have some very key and crucial match ups, one against the CUSA and two against the MWC...
-NMSU vs UTEP
Texas State vs Southern Miss
-South Alabama vs San Diego State

Once again, the SBC has had a slow start in OOC, however week 3 provides a chance for the Belt to send some waves in the G5 land.
I'll just leave this here.

5 rushing touchdowns, 4 of them before halftime, longest run of 88 yards for a TD, average of 11.6 yards per touch, didn't see 4th quarter action.

FTFY
I was disappointed in the App loss (at least by the spread) also, but we imploded in the 2nd quarter. Other than the 14 points we handed them on offensive mistakes (interceptions) and another 3 that we gave them by jumping off sides on a field goal attempt (giving them a second...and third attempt), I was actually pleased and encouraged with how App played. FYI...the set back was 31 points....not 38.

App's D is playing very well, and I am very confident that the Offense will hit its stride. We have two weeks to address issues identified and prepare to get things back on track. I expect a solid win at Old Dominion (two close wins against mediocre to weak teams).

The Red Wolves fell just short of beating a good Missouri team. I was really hoping you guys would pull that one out. That would have been a great win for stAte and for the Sunbelt. The Belt now has two near misses against SEC teams. The Louisiana loss to Kentucky is looking better with UK beating South Carolina, but the Gamecocks are seriously stinking it up this year. They squeaked out a win against a bad UNC team and show no rhythm at all on offense so far. They are still one of those teams who would be dangerous in any given game though.

So far it's hard to figure out how the Belt is going to look but things could be very interesting!

Congrats to GSU on their first FBS win!

Thanks, though it's not like you guys don't have one of your own.

ULM played Nicholls. Louisiana played Northwestern LA. They are usually the better team.

I didn't realize you guys played us this past weekend...

Those kinds of stats are what it feels like after y'all play us generally. 03-weeping

Indeed. They beat LaTech at Ruston last year, something the Cajuns will be hard-pressed to do in a few weeks.
My player of the week (homer pick) is Matt Breida.

176 yards on 11 carries (16 ypc)
Also 10.6 ypc without the 70 yard run
And 4 TDs.

The Sun Belt agrees with your homer pick:

Thanks! I like them alot! Our home unis were sweet as well.
TXST players won't get this (especially the RBs) because we spread it around much more. GS had no passing TDs, while we had 3 by 3 different receivers and 5 rushing TDs by 3 different guys.

We rushed for over 400 yards and Breida only carried 11 times (less than 20% of the rushing plays) for 176 yards. I'd say he deserves this one.
Breida scored a TD on 36% of his carries this weekend. Crazy.

Outside of both our home and away unis, I think these are my favorites unis in the conference. Clean, not too flashy, and just plain sharp.
