He was a big sports fan in Houston too, and would show up to a lot of sporting events. I'm pretty sure he and Hakeem were at a Rice game this past season.
Man, everytime I complain about being a tiny 5-9, I have to be reminded how the giants of the NBA and other tall people have such a delicate health situation when they get older. Just in the past couple of weeks, we've lost Darryl Dawkins, Moses Malone, Roy Marble and so many others who die way too young.
Sad news. RIP Moses, and prayers and condolences to family and friends.
One of my favorite Malone stories; early in his stint with the ROCKETS, he bought a Porsche 928 and had the front seat taken out so that he could fit in the car by sitting in the modified rear seat. I'm sure he could reach the gear shift from the rear seat with his long arms.... What a character!
It was nice to see him play. Moses controlled the area under the basket.
