Love that fact that Dr. Chandler has been engaged with the folks on this board regarding improvements to game day experience. I think we should put our ideas in one thread and let him take the ball and run with them if he feels they can. So I will start with a couple.
1) we should have the cheerleaders lead this before before the team takes the field , the howitzer goes off, and crazy train is played. One side of the stadium says LETS Go.....the other side then says Monarchs ! And it alternates several time before CRAZY train is even started.
2) I hope they have checked out the audio system prior to game day especially on the home field 50 yard line side up in the top sections of the stadium
3) MORE replays especially of big hits or various plays under review.
4) try to incorporate involving the student section the I believe we will win chant.
5) we need some tradition started to really signify the start of the 4th quarter...raising of the ODU flag / colors, a 12th Monarch Flag, something

I've always thought a student or fan should get to somehow lead the team out of the tunnel each week with this flag. Some kind of contest.
Last season it was just a member of the football team bringing it out.

I know I was spouting off about how we should emulate VT and all on the other thread... But do we REALLY want something that is a carbon copy of what they do before games? I know they are most likely not the only school that does this but in the state of VA it is widely known as the Hokies thing. There are so many other things we can do that involves splitting up the crowds or chants that we could make our own. When I cheered we discussed starting a chant where one section could yell "O" the students/ainsle seats yelled "D" and the other side yelled "U", or maybe even a "We Are!" "Monarchs!" or "Blue!" "White!"If we wanted to do it for both sides.
2 isn't likely to happen with the new stadium coming soon.
3 isn't likely to happen with the concussion era we're in now and the Football scoreboard being controlled from the Ted's control room. Hopefully the upgrades at the Ted help them out.

We really need to start something
- other then the easing of the 4 fingers.
Something on the video board would be great also.
ECU had this whole pirate mini movie going into the 4th.
If we wanted to continue the Naval theme of battle and to honor our city's military connection -maybe a "Call to general quarters"
And that with additional firing of the howitzer.
I would love to hear the cannon go off after every touchdown. It would also be nice if things were actually synchronized with the music, like the team runs out and the cannons go off to the beat of Crazy Train. Brief fireworks from behind the scoreboard (just four of five) after the clock runs out for every victory. (VT does it for every touchdown)

#2 has to happen because there are big donors in that section and the audio has been extremely poor. If they expect Those donations to continue the least they could do is ensure there is decent sound for the fans.
Someone ordered up the WE ARE - MONARCHS chant last week on the boards and everyone seemed to be in agreement that we could, and should, try to make that work. I mentioned that I would try to incorporate that in a basketball TO. I think I've found a way, time permitting, to incorporate it into football before the team's intro video starts. So I hope that is not a disappointment as I see some are not in favor of doing it unless it is original to ODU. I know I can't please everyone no matter what we try to do, but this is something I think we can try without having to jump through a lot of hoops and we have the cheer signs and crowd prompts on the video board already in stock.
I say we give this a try and see if we can get the entire crowd working in unison. If so, it will help with future efforts. Even if its not original it will have a nice impact if the whole stadium is doing it. Marshall definitely started this and can call it there own but there are many schools (Georgetown for example) that do the same thing so I don't think it will be viewed as us stealing a C-USA member's tradition. It takes time to create your own traditions and often they start out of the blue, which is exactly how Ice Cream and Cake started...it was a routine that the dance team performed with no intention of it becoming a tradition and it stuck.
No promises if the band goes long or we have a pre-game presentation one of these games. We'll give a heads up announcement to the crowd when its about to happen. It will likely be after Big Blue's intro, so help us out. Cheer and Band will be helping coordinate.

This is great by the way, but don't tell Wood I said that. I think we actually played a Proclaimers song at a couple of the games last year to try to get the students echoing the chorus when we would cut the music off for a split second so you could just hear the crowd. They got it the first time but the second game we couldn't get a response. We did the same thing with Living on a Prayer...that one seemed to work better.
I agree with the poster about not liking the WE ARE chant being a rip-off oh Marshall. My goodness, that was even the name of the movie about their horrible tragedy!
One of the reason I don't like the state logo is it's almost more st a carbon copy of East Carolina's.
I like the suggestion of West stands yell O, East yells D and the end zone yells U. One letter is more "legible" when yelled.
We're smart fans surely we can come up with something original.

Couple of years ago I was back in the White Lot the first year they had it. Someone accidentally set off their car horn alarm about an hour before the game. Well you know everyone pulled out their keys and did the same. All the car horns going off about an hour before game time and we just did it the rest of the home games and into the next year. I have not been in the white lot for two years so I wonder if they still do it. It was kind of the last call before closing up and starting that mile walk to the stadium. I thought it was cute. The people in the Green lot last year did not find it amusing.
