How can a program like VT go into the season only have recruited one player that can throw the FB? Pathetic.

That hit on their starting QB was clean, legal, and satisfying to watch. The injury to the non-throwing shoulder was incidental. Its not every day you get hit by a DT the size and weight of a fully-stocked fridge.

Right, but how is their backup MEAC level?

Looking good for the Buckeyes. Same old Hokies....such high hopes and bravado, only to have their lofty expectations killed before October. Could not happen to a more humble and respectful fanbase.

With this result holding, ODU is the only 1-A team in Virginia to win their opener.

Smitty sleeps very well tonight.
the Hokies have a tradition of crapping the bed in high profile, over-hyped games. Last night was no exception.

The Chokies are the same as always...way over hyped and all hat....no horse. I suspect and expect that in 2 yrs....ODU football will at the same level. We beat them in all other sports so why shouldn't football be any different !

Also did anyone else notice that VT has essentially NO diversity in the student body. How can a State funded university that receives so much State money not have any diversity in it's student body ? They do not represent the demographics of the Commonwealth of Va. at all. I hope VA. lawmakers take notice.
Guys I actually was rooting for VT last night... I knew they had a very very slim chance to win and that blew up once Brewer got hit. It was a clean and legal hit but I feel sorry for him.

However I don't understand how they didn't have a backup that was ready to play. Last year they had a senior who was supposed to be the started until Brewer came and took it, but they couldn't have at least prepared Motley or had someone who could actually throw a pass waiting on the sidelines. I don't want to make it seem like we aren't in a better spot, because if Bentley goes down I don't have any guess as to how our backups could do either.

Anyways I had hopes that the Hokies could win at least 7/8 games this year but now that Brewer is out for half the season it doesn't look good at all

I think I read once there student population is something like 7% African American
Virginia's FBS teams are 1-2
ODU = Win
VT = Loss
UVA = Loss
I was texting my cousing, who is a Tech fan and was at the game last night and if Brewer is out for an extended period of time (and it appears that he is), he wants to see Tech play true freshman Dwayne Lawson (6'6", 220 lbs.). 4 star recruit. Can't be worse than the backup last night.

How about they just take the best applicant regardless of their color? I have an even better idea: We let them do their thing out in Blacksburg, they seem to be doing just fine, and we do our thing here in Norfolk. The constant grousing and hand wringing about slights and perceived slights is tiresome. Sure we have some stuff that we need to improve on as a University but worrying about what is going on across the state is silly and is not a good look.

Worse than that, 3.7%.
Additionally, JMU is 4.24%.
Those numbers for State schools are outrageous.

Argument can be made for HBC.

It might be an argument assuming that HBCUs decline applicants that are non-black. I wouldn't bet that to be the case though.

At any rate, VT had a great atmosphere last night. If ODU could ever get anywhere close to that, I'd probably say we have no more program building to do. It might have been a empty second half without their starting QB, but they were playing the #1 team in the USA and led them when the QB got smashed. Not sure there is much to fault them for on that performance.

I don't care for them but maybe I'm too balanced for this conversation. I think the team did well and their fanbase earned an A+. Here's to the hope that we can build a stadium, rep colors and make noise like that.

You would think all state schools would mirror the demographic breakup of the state. Funny how that doesn't seem to be the case amongst the most favored schools.

A more diverse student body is a good thing, but I do wonder how it translates into fan support for athletics down the road. Seems a disproportionate number of our student support is white, and our fan base is overwhelmingly white compared to our alumni percentages.

Yes, the only solution is to establish strict quotas and openly discriminate against white people, especially against white males. After all, if you are a white male, you are already wealthy, so why do white males need to go to college?

That would be fine if ODU would do the same, but we are under different requirements from the state along with a much lower funding level. I guess you are happy with things the way they are. MANY are not !! I have no problem with having a diverse student body and firmly believe it creates a much better environment to prepare student for the real world. However, when requirements are placed on ODU and NOT others and it impacts the financial health and the long term growth of the University I am very bothered by that.
Does anybody know what the breakdown at ODU looks like?
White 53.5
Black 24.8
Other 21.7
Virginia Tech and Ohio State are two schools that know how to put numbers on their jerseys. Our numbers suck, IMO. Not big or thick enough. 07-coffee3
