Anyone hear about this? These guys are idiots.

http://espn.go.com/moresports/story/_/id...ng-referee

No matter how bad a game is, you just can't do this - That ref could have been seriously injured.

They should permanently expelled from football
Saw that on a Tulane fan website. There may be charges pending from what I understand.

They are idiots should be suspend or kicked off team. But I do wonder what was really going on in that game considering two players were ejected earlier. I don't condone it but I do wonder if it was warranted.
and arrested and charged with assault
They should have been kicked off the team after they went through some "internal discipline"

Both players have been suspended from the team, as well as school. The Targeted Official wants to pursue charges. Police, The School District, and The UIL are all conducting investigations.

The act itself was/is beyond stupid ... . .

That's being looked into. In Texas it's against the law to assault a game official. The Irony, the law was passed to protect officials from misbehaving fans ... .

.... Not sure anyone figured they'd need protection from players ...

Here's the short answer: No, it wasn't warranted, and there's very little that the ref could have done to warrant such a cheap shot.

a) the guy isn't playing in the game. He's reffing it. There's no expectation of being hit.
b) they cheap shot him. He hit him from behind (coward) and speared the guy on the ground (equally coward).

If the guy was making racist comments or something like that, be a man and come at him like one. Wait until after the game and confront him. Hell if it's that big of a transgression, take your helmet and your shoulder pads off, and meet him on the field.

Don't be a scared little b$tch and hit him from behind.

WTF could he have possibly done to have that be "warranted"? That's absolutely criminal intent to harm a person, the spearing is using the helmet as a weapon and could even be a felony.
I read somewhere, that they were upset over a previous penalty called by him.

What I have gotten from reading various articles (versions) is, bad calls, racial slurs and the ejections. A combination of one, two or all of these.

Never, ever warranted. We already have a generation that thinks the solution to everything is retaliation (you stole my girlfriend, bang, dead. you looked at me wrong, bang, dead. You disrespected my best friend's sister's dog...you get the idea) instead of working it out or getting over it in a more civil manner. It needs to stop somewhere.

You probably want to rephrase that.

Don't quote me, but I believe that a media report stated that the official had ejected their QB earlier in the game . . . .
No way to excuse what those 2 players did.

No I don't. By warranted I meant in the players eyes. If the guy was making racial slurs and stuff then yeah I could see tempers flailing but no I don't condone it. But I don't believe they should ruin the kids lives either. The ref should be the bigger man and walk away. Suspend the kids and make it a tough lesson on on them.

I wasn't there so I don't know what pushed the players over the edge. Like I said I don't condone it I just wonder what pushed the over the edge to warrant such action.

Such action by kids, in a game, against a Ref, is NEVER warranted . . . . .

If they had a legitimate grievance, than they should have presued legitimate avenues of resolution . . . . .

Provoked? Yeah, I can handle that word, warranted, no way EVAH.

provoked: to anger, enrage, exasperate, or vex, to incite or stimulate (a person, animal, etc.) to action.

warranted: authorization, sanction, or justification

People have been left paralyzed from lesser hits than that. Would calling someone names justify possible paralyzation? The country has a system of laws and rules to handle disputes. Blindsiding a refereein a football game because you didn't like what he said or did would never be justified and should NEVER be tolerated.
Geez I wonder where they learned it was ok to do stuff like this?
