So other than the SEC, which conference distinguished itself this weekend?

The Pac 12 with losses to Hawaii, Portland St, and two of their ranked teams losing to unranked opponents.

How about the the Big 12 that lost to South Dakota State, and one of their flagship programs going down 38-3 to Notre Dame. They still have only 1 high quality win in the last 400 days. (TCU / Ole Miss)

Must be the Big 10 then right? Nope losses to Temple, Marshall, third best team blown out by Alabama. No shame in losing TCU, Utah but they still count. Add BYU winning at Nebraska.

So the ACC is the only power 5 conference without defeat from a lower division school, even though they couldn't steal one due to being Fedoraded, and a poor first half by Louisville.

I don't count the dumpster fire at Virginia.

So the people complaining about the ACC, see anything better out there besides the SEC?

IMO, the ACC is squarely in the middle of the P5 so far.

SEC had 4 P5 wins and 1 G5 loss
Big XII had 1 P5 win and 1 FCS loss
ACC had no P5 wins and no G5 or FCS losses
Pac-12 had 2 P5 wins, 2 G5 losses and 1 FCS loss
Big Ten had 1 P5 win, 3 G5 losses and 1 FCS win by a point.

The SEC clearly won week 1 but the ACC can solidify the #2 spot with VT beating Ohio St, maybe even make a case for the top spot. Lets see how week 2 goes.

The ACC could easily sweep week #2. The toughest match-up is probably Houston @ Louisville.

(Oops! I forgot about Notre Dame @ Virginia).
The only OOC game the ACC should lose next week is Virginia-Notre Dame. But that won't mean it will be a more impressive week than Week 1 was. Just a much easier schedule.

That's about as big of a #goacc statement as I have ever seen here.

"We might have sucked but we didn't suck the worst."

What was impressive about the ACC's week 1?

It wasn't really 'impressive' by most standards out there...but it really wasn't a disaster. UNC let the Scar game get away from them, and the Cards had a bad half but showed a lot in the 2nd...tho still a loss obviously.

The only really ugly contusion seems to be Virginia's decision not to make a coaching change at the end of last season. But we'll see if London can pick it up, tho have slim hopes if they are going against ND next...
I forgot to add the VT-OSU game tonight. Even tho Bubkeyes are #1, if the game gets away from the Hokies and it gets ugly, yeah-- that looks bad...
As pointed out by David Hale of ESPN, here are the P5 conference W-L records so far:

SEC: 12-1
Big 12: 8-2
ACC: 10-3
Pac-12: 7-5
Big Ten: 7-6

Had UNC and Louisville won, the SEC and ACC would've flipped - it really came down to those 2 games.
Isn't that what SEC apologists said after bowl season? The SEC West is still the nation's best division/conference because Arkansas was the best last place conference team around?

Nobody said the ACC didn't blow some opportunities. What get's on my nerves is the immediate assumption that they say ACC is 5th.

The numbers/facts just don't add up for that.

You aren't 5th. More like in a struggle for 2nd with the Big 12 which I think is over rated. What chaps me is Ohio State's SOS. Have you taken a look at it? Hawaii, Northern Illinois, and Western Michigan for their OOC. Then Indiana, Rutgers, Maryland, Illinois, Penn State, Michigan, Minnesota and Michigan State. In other words they have 1 game remaining on their schedule against the Spartans. I don't want to hear a word out of the Big 10 guys about the SEC's, ACC's, or Big 12's SOS. The PAC may not be that strong but at least they play 9 conference games and scheduled P5's OOC.

I guess when we went to the CFP the SOS goes out the window.

Yeah Ohio St SOS is pathetic, only 1 currently ranked team. That should hurt their CFP seeding, we'll see what the committee does with them.

I think it's a wash after the SEC in week 1. While the ACC only had quality losses (SCar, Auburn, UCLA & Ohio St) we didn't have any quality wins either. I like the top 4 (FSU, Clemson, GT & UofL) in the ACC though.

I think NC State could be strong as well.

While I agree with some of the criticism of the B-10, the Ohio St. Criticism may all be moot anyway. They didn't necessarily look like the super-team in the 1st, w/ the way VT got back the lead by the half, but they sure were looking that way in the 2nd. And while I understand that the Hokies lost their QB-- what OSU is doing is really quite incredible and is difficult to match AT THIS TIME.

From what I can see, and maybe this is by accident of all their QB injuries last year -- But whether or not this was planned-- the Buckeyes effectively have like 3 teams within their overall team. I mean they've got like several QB's, all of whom can do things... and I don't see another team in CFB that can match that at this point. Not in practice, not structurally, not really in any way.

This is probably the wave of the future, and the more I think about it, the most it really provides is some avenues to land all the QBs that you realistically need- to go far. For instance, UofL's now identified that young Mr.Lamar Jackson's a top-notch QB and should be the starter. But what about young Mr. Pass next year? And I think there's another really good prospect who is considering/reconsidering.

How do you keep all these guys locked in and committed? By forming more than one team within the overall body of the holistic team. This will be the way all top teams will have to go in the future.

Is Urban Meyer a genius, or was genius merely necessity: the mother of invention? Either way-- this is The way. The Buckeyes now, while maybe not looking like the Neb. machine of the 90's, or some other top programs, like USC of a decade ago, or Bama more recently, is just like them in that they are blazing their own new path of dominance on a wholly new model and everyone else will have to follow!
