Kentucky is part of a two-for-one where we'll play at Kentucky in 2017 and 2020, while hosting 2019. The story notes that It's technically two contracts; a 'guarantee' game worth $1.2 million, and the 2019-2020 home-and-home.

The San Diego State series is a home-and-home, with SDSU hosting the first game in 2018.
Kentucky isn't exactly the program Michigan State is, but an SEC football school is an SEC football school. Glad Lyke and the department could get this deal done. The 2019 schedule looks to be a good one.

I believe Chris Spears is the one behind all (or most as I don't know for certain) of these moves.

He did tell me last year that they were re-doing the future football schedules.

The idea being to still bring in top dollar from road game guarantees but try to avoid the brutal matchups.

I'm liking what I'm seeing.

I also believe Chis will be/is a point man for facilities enhancements but I assume that is pretty much on hold because of Dr. Martin's departure.

I have reason to believe that some things would have been announced if Dr. Martin was still president and things going to plan.
Cue the Ypsi-tucky comments in 3-2-1, go.

Hehehehe

Actually - I like this a lot. Keep a balanced schedule and push for more home-away series with (for lack of a better word) reasonable teams. I'm assuming the open dates for possible home games will be with FCS teams.
Dear Huron Boy,
Not necessarily. We have scheduled teams from Conference-USA, and the Mountain West Conference, so there are other conferences that we could pick-up a home and home situation to fill any open dates that are FBS.
Kentucky makes a lot of sense. People in the city/township with Kentucky roots love their Wildcats!
If the game actually happens, I bet it will be fairly well attended.

Yes, but a 'guaranteed win' vs. FCS to OPEN the season makes sense.

Do remember most schools want to OPEN AT HOME so it isn't easy to get a FBS team to come here for opening weekend. (just like MLB, everyone would love to have the first game at their place).

We're lucky to have ODU open the season here.
BTW, here are the future schedules in a single website:

I have been very critical of EMU's scheduling but this is a great step in the right direction. Glad to see them finally catching up with the rest of the MAC.
