Getting some love from Sports Illustrated. Picked to win the MAC - and also picked as 1 of 5 "teams that could get the Group of Five's New Years Six Bowl Bid. I'm sure that is because of being picked to win the MAC. Indicate we have to beat either Arkansas or Iowa State to remain in that chance. Did not list Hunt in the Heisman "Hunt" or in the "5 Players Who Deserve Attention" from the Group of Five. Do have a picture of him on those 2 pages about the Group of Five. Have BG winning a pretty weak East Division over Akron and Ohio. WMU and NIU are 2nd and 3rd in the West. Cite our weakness as the O-line. I think we will surprise a lot of people with the talent that is there - even if it is inexperienced.

Show Ely as a senior. Did he get another redshirt year for last year - or is that still pending a decision?

Also screwed Ohio State by picking them as #1 (I'm still an OSU fan - and that started long before I went to UT, so all the haters will just have to deal with that on this message lol). Michigan picked to finish #4 in their division of the Big 10/14 - so not everyone has gone insane with Harbaughmania.

They also show Ark. State being second to Georgia Southern in the Sunbelt. If we knew how to play just a little defense last year - that game would not have been nearly as close as it was. we'll see soon enough if the defense has improved because of that measuring stick we get early on.

Marshall picked to be 3rd in their division of CUSA. I still hate those ####ers.

Nice to be picked pre-season to win the MAC; however, UT has been picked several times for that distinction since the last time they actually won it on the field so I will curb my enthusiasm until the season is under way.

I don't question the talent of the new O-line however, last year the complex blocking schemes and amount of pulling that they required coupled with the usually near flawless and well coordinated execution suggest a degree of experience gained thru extensive time playing together as a unit which I would expect to be absent (at the very least) early in the season----the Arkansas game and the Arkansas State game (for comparison to last year) may give us a good indication of how both the O and D lines stack up this season against those of past years.

Kerin not Mancz was the Center in 2013. UT needed to replace an All-MAC Center in 2014.This meant another Rocket moving into Mancz's vacated spot. The result was UT had an All-American Center last season. Rockets are still a Top 5 OL in the MAC in 2015. It will have plenty of experience as a unit by the time that late October-November schedule hits. The DL is as Steele's rates it, #1 in the MAC.

Mancz was a starter in 2013, just not at center. Besides there is a BIG difference between replacing 1 of 5 experienced linemen and having to replace 5 of 5 experienced linemen so I still have some reservations early on but as you point out they will be gaining experience as the season progresses and most of what at this point appears to be the pivotal conference games are played late in the season. I do think that how fast the OL jells as a unit will help determine how we feel about the season after the dust settles in January.

I agree that the defense, particularly as regards the DL, should be improved. As I said sometime ago, exactly where the team finishes this season (probably somewhere between 7-5 and 10-2) could depend largely on the improvement in the D and if it is enough to compensate for the step back I expect (especially early on) from the offensive.

Also at this point it is unknown if the new kicker will put the ball in the end zone as frequently as did Detmer, thus avoiding potential loss of field position on kickoffs.
