I'm not a huge fan of their coffee but Howard Shultz is taking a leading role on alot of issues (starbucks was one of the first retailers to offer healthcare for part time employees and his partnership with Arizona U to enable employees to complete Bachelors Degrees online with the company paying part of the cost even for part timers is another game changer in retail)
Pouring resources into training teenagers in what to do to land work is admirable

There wouldn't be this problem with youth unemployment if we didn't offshore all the traditional jobs that many of the older less skilled workers used to have. These people are now taking these jobs because they are the only ones available to them. Not to mention because they pay so little, many times the workers are taking up 2-3 jobs that could go to the youth.

i hear ya Robert, but at least in a retail service setting the employees can earn tips and because of the imagination of Howard Shultz and the University of Arizona; all Starbucks employees who work at least 20 hours a week are eligible for company tuition payments toward completing an online degree provided they have already completed 2 years of college coursework.
Few retailers offer benefits like this, except maybe Costco
