One-and-done with USC in 2022. I like this game, although it would've been nice to get a 2-for-1 like we did with UCLA.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I probably am), but Rice seems to be the only C-USA team that regularly schedules Pac-12 teams.. We have a one-and-one coming up with Stanford in 2016/2017.
You guys probably recruit smart guys from out that way. I would say UTEP would be the only other one that recruits that direction.
Nice game. Rice is a different type of institution than the rest of C-USA. It benefits them to play schools like UCLA, Stanford, and USC.

UAB schedules primarily Sun Belt and SEC in non-conference. Stay regional. We've played one current MWC team, one current Pac-12 team, and no current MAC teams. The one MWC game was the Hawai'i Bowl.

I'm not sure I would say "regularly" as much as "occasionally." (The relatively recently scheduled Standford home-and-home (most likely attributable to new AD Joe Karlgaard, a former Stanford Asst. AD), a game against UCLA a few years ago, and this one upcoming against So. California).

The last several years, it seems most C-USA schools have scheduled SEC teams regularly, which I would guess helps boost attendance and ticket sales more than scheduling PAC1-2 schools would for most C-USA schools.

Other than Texas A&M, which used to be SWC along with Rice, Rice has not done much SEC scheduling at all that I can recall. Would like to see a lot more SEC and ACC contests featuring Rice scheduled in the future a la other C-USA teams.
Marshall's been bending towards the B1G and ACC lately with Purdue, Louisville, NC St., and Pitt, as well as past games with Wisc. and Ohio State.

That is some very smart scheduling on Marshall's part. Those games are way more possible for fans of the various schools to drive to than if Marshall was scheduling PAC-12 teams. And it gets the Marshall brand out in front of the heart of the college football national fandom where the important East-Coast and Midwest media can give Marshall a lot of free publicity which helps their recruiting efforts.
UTSA will play @ Arizona this year which will conclude a 2 for 1.

Next year we start a 1 and 1 with Arizona State.

Former Rice Head Coach Todd Graham has done a great job keeping Arizona State in and around the Top 10. One of these years perhaps he will be able to take them all the way.

UTEP has a home and home with Arizona coming up in 2017-18. Other than that it has been a while since a home and home vs Oregon in the late 90's and a 2004 game vs Arizona St.
We're opening the basketball season this year in Berkeley, as well.

What are the attendance setups for those, when playing a big-dog G5?

I know with WMU, getting a 1-and-1 against MSU (we play them every 2.5 years or so anyway), they basically said at our home game we get to keep everything (att tops at close to 40k), and at their home game they keep everything (att tops at around 80k).

Essentially, instead of the usual both-games-at-MSU and us splitting 80k both times (getting 2 40ks for two games), we get 1 close-to-40k, as we play there for free in return to them coming to our house.
each of the CUSA's divisions seem to look its own east/west direction for rivalries and competition.

PAC-12 teams like Arizona St. are fun to watch. I hope the Roadrunners continue to land 1-1 with say Washington or Washington St.

Yeah, like SApuro said, next season (2016) will mark the 4th consecutive year we'll face a Pac-12 foe, as we play Arizona again this season and the Sun Devils next year.

Correct me if I'm wrong also, but I don't think Rice has anyone from California on their roster. UTSA however has six. UTEP probably has the most in C-USA though, at 13, I believe. But I think El Paso is basically the same distance from the Cali border as it is from San Antonio, so that shouldn't surprise.

Two from Cal, two from Nevada, one from Hawaii, all walk ons. Also others from Colorado, Alaska, Canada, Missouri, Georgia, Louisiana. Kansas, and probably a few other places.
Do these games against the P12 start late pacific time. I love watching football when I eat my breakfast.

We played Vandy twice in the past decade. The primary reason we no longer schedule LSU (which used to be an annual matchup from the 1960s into the '80s) and other SEC team is because they either refuse to schedule home-and-home games, or demand a ridiculous percentage of the gate for road games. Quite honestly, there's really no need when we have Texas, A&M and Baylor all relatively close by in Texas, and who are all long-time rivals who bring huge crowds. The sudden West Coast scheduling (Stanford, Boise State, USC) appears to be for improved out-of-state recruiting...and, if so, it makes good sense.

Attendance for the 2010 Baylor game is listed at 23,395, which was disappointing to me. It was, however, better than the 21,543 for Texas Teach in 2007 (after the Nicholls State debacle).

I was at the Vandy game to see Chase, Thor, Dillard, et al. They had a very nice large tailgate and pre-game set up, and the stands were pretty full for that game, I recall.

You are correct on LSU being unreasonable. And now that Texas A&M is in the SEC, they really don't need to schedule Rice to get into the area recruiting-wise, which is a shame. Ditto, Ole Miss and Miss State (who pounded us good a few years ago when we played them in our only championship year in CUSA). Arkansas used to travel very well to Rice Stadium back in the day. Never forget the first Rice-Arkansas game I saw with the whole stadium basically in red and almost 60,000 fans all yelling "Souie!" at once.

It's a shame that Rice didn't take the much-rumored offer to jump with A&M to the SEC back in the 90's. Would have solved a lot of these issues, and we'd be playing Vandy yearly as our crossover opponent, as well as the whole SEC West, which would do wonders for our home game attendance, not to mention that SEC paycheck...Oh well. When does the Wagner-Rice game start again?
