So, has he been dismissed from the team or just suspended? I have not seen the word dismissed used anywhere. That would sure clarify the situation for me at least.
Kinda seems like hes not going anywhere IMO

I'm not upset. Stupid move on his part 100%, but if all they found him guilty of was misdemeanor assault, I'd understand why he's still be here.
I would imagine JJ was waiting for his day in court to make a decision. We'll probably hear something soon. Probably a good sign that it was reduced to a misdemeanor.
I expect him to, at the very least, miss 5 games, similar to last year.
Sometimes you have to cut a man lose for the good of the program. He seems like a nice young man, but makes bad decisions.

In what way does he seem like a "nice young man?"
I apparently don't have all the information to understand the situation. He has multiple run-ins with the law(2 in august 2014), is on probation from one of these incidents(1 year) does this violate the probation?. Then the issue of the dorm room "fight" with the WBB team members. With the current assault, that's 4 problems that should not be part of our program. Help me see between the lines so i too can justify having him in our program.

1) He's a difference maker on the floor
2) Only one year of eligibility remaining, a dismissal hurts himself and the team (APR)
3) Maybe he's worth rehabilitating if that is was is needed
4) The player is on JJ, cutting ties with him now could produce another Chris Gatling. Maybe just maybe someone on the team can get through to him and he can become someone we can all be proud of one day.

That's all I got...
Bad look for the team, bad look for the school. Such a shame given how much he could potentially contribute this season, but you have to cut the cord. If they decide to keep him, I wouldn't be surprised to see him be suspended for the entire OOC.

That would be Bryant Stith, Jeff Jones, and perhaps Wood Selig's job, not yours. I'll support the decision, whatever it may be. I know nothing about what happened in August 2014 and I frankly haven't seen anything about the dorm room incident that causes me much concern.

The concern is that it is part of a clear pattern of destructive behavior.

All I am saying is the only one that there are any details on is the run in with the WBB players, and, while I am sure there is a lot more to the story, eveything I have seen showed he didn't really act inappropriately. Right now we have a misdemeanor, that's it. No drug issues that we know of, no theft, no random assaults, no felonies, just some arguments that went sour. None, or at least most of us don't know him or any of these situations. The coaches do and will make the right decision, whatever it may be.

+1 to this post and your previous. Sounds like some here are saints and have never thrown a punch. I'm not justifying his actions but leave the judging and assessments to the coaches.

Count me in on the +1 column. EverRespect couldn't have analyzed the situation any better than he did. I am in overwhelmingly complete agreement. Another reason to play our cards right is the fact that potential recruits may seriously be watching how we handle these matters. These kids are young, and they all have tendencies to make stupid decisions based on immature instincts. As long as they are not criminal in nature, as was stated earlier, let these kids be and allow the coaches to handle it the best way they know how. As much as we'd like ODU to keep "thugs" out of our lineups, we certainly don't want to paint a picture that says, ODU deserts its student athletes at the slight hint of trouble or misjudgement.
Let's Go Monarchs, Aim High!
I support the team and all university athletics program at large. I don't enjoy or find satisfaction in situations like this, but I'll shut up and take it if we can just get through the season without further incident.
pleased with the response to my post and stand with the coaches decision. as camerman says "that went well"

Speaking with him at events he seemed likable. That goes for others I know who have spoken with him. He just seems to make bad decisions. I do not see how ODU as a program can keep him on the team no matter what they feel about his talent. This would set a horrible precedent and I think the coaches and athletic staff are smarter than that.

It all depends on whether you are concerned with your reputation for winning games or your reputation for conducting yourself in a positive life fashion.
Steve Spurrier made strong remarks about domestic violence (he mixes violence against women with domestic violence, a definition I agree with) today on ESPN. He said one incident and a player is gone, I hope his stance would become the norm.
Right now, he is not on the team, having been indefinitely suspended. There's nothing that says they ever have to reinstate him. I guess I wouldn't be surprised it they just let him finish college, without ever playing again. Harry's down with Wood Selig. I hope he gets some comment on the situation from him.
