It'll depend on who his replacement is. He has done a good job maintaining the league through a lot of departures. The next commish will need to work out a favorable TV deal, both monetarily and exposure-wise. And they will need to make tough decisions on the future of UABs membership in CUSA. They will also need to consider the future expansion/contraction of the league. Not easy tasks given the current climate.
I wonder how much the current TV talks had to do with him leaving. If that was a factor, it can't be a good sign.
There's not much positive that can come from this. Maybe it'll be a great replacement, but whoever it is, they need to be serious about fixing CUSA basketball.

The same schools that don't give a crap about CUSA basketball are the ones who will be voting for the next commissioner. I wouldn't hold my breath on that caveat.

CUSA is in a unique situation with UAB and the TV negotiations. They need someone ready to trail blaze.
Tom Yeager !!! Next CUSA commish!

Call me crazy but I would not be totally shocked to see our own John Broderick in the mix to be the next CUSA commish.

Isn't that a full time gig? Would he have to step down as President to do that? I was thinking maybe Wood before John. I just hope whoever it is can negotiate some good TV deals with big payouts, some better bowls against money conference teams and get basketball back to a multi bid conference.

Honest question: is that a step up?

Don't know, but it is the last thing we want. We need to get into the AAC.

He makes $312k+ a year now, not including perks. Banowsky makes over $500k. However, when was the last time someone went from the academic side to athletic side? I think Wood is a more likely candidate.

ODU has a lot of irons in the fire right now and it would be very bad timing IMO if either of these two leaders left at this point. ODU is just starting to come of age in athletics, research, and other areas. We need stability for a good 8-10 year period.

Does he make a million a year like banowsky foes? If not, it's a step up.
From an athletics standpoint, you can't have a better president than Broderick.

As of 2013 Banowsky's base salary was $427K, with additional compensation taking it to $559K. Not a bad paycheck, but not a million dollars.
I wouldn't think the next commish would come from a member school, how could they turn off their bias towards where they came from? Seems like a conflict of interest.
