Coach told me we were trying to get a transfer from a power conference to enroll this summer, which I believe is July 6th. If we don't get him, we're working on a couple of others for this year's class. I feel pretty certain we'll sign one more. The potential transfer is a big man. I don't know about the other players.04-cheers

Now that the NCAA allows it, it is now the norm for freshman and other new players to start taking classes in the summer to get a jump on getting class hours credit.
The big deal is that when a transfer gets into school, he's officially ours. I'm not talking about the players who signed letters of intent in the normal signing period. But as I understand it, those who agree to come after that signing period are still free agents until they enroll in school. Maybe someone else can clarify that.

Well that is true. But once they enroll they can begin taking classes right away.
Mississippi State transfer Oliver Black has enrolled at Arkansas-Little Rock, per source. Played 31 games (four starts) as a freshman. 6'9.
So Miss was after him, too.

"Former Mississippi State power forward Oliver Black made an official visit to Southern Miss earlier this week. Last season, the 6-foot-9 former Wingfield standout averaged 1.8 points and 2.4 rebounds per game as a true freshman with the Bulldogs. Black appeared in 31 of Mississippi State's 32 games last season, including four starts. If he transfers to Southern Miss, he would have to sit out next season due to NCAA rules."
STARKVILLE On a day where freshmen are eligible to report, Mississippi State's basketball roster decreased.

Oliver Black is no longer with MSU a team spokesperson told the Clarion-Ledger Tuesday night. Black averaged 1.8 points and 2.4 rebound in his only season with the Bulldogs. The freshman averaged 15 minutes per game in 31 contests last year.

He is the second player second-year player to leave Mississippi State under Ben Howland. Guard Maurice Dunlap left the program two weeks ago. Black's departure was mutual according to MSU.

Dunlap played in only seven games last year before redshirting. He averaged 2.9 points per game. His six-point debut was also his career-high.

Dunlap's spot opened a scholarship for four-star prospect Aric Holman to sign with the Bulldogs. Without Black, Howland has an open scholarship to work with. He's already added the top-rated guard in the country, Malik Newman, and Holman since accepting the head coaching job in March.

Black struggled at the start of last year. The 6-foot-9 forward couldn't catch entry passes at times. The Jackson native showed potential toward the end of his first season during Southeastern Conference play. He scored six points and grabbed seven rebounds against Vanderbilt as career-highs.

Black was a Rival's 3 star out of high school. Had offers from Oklahoma and Wichita State. A redshirt year with good coaching is what he needs. Another great add by Coach Beard with a big assistant from Wes Flanigan.
