The schools are not very similar except name wise.

Their situation is very similar even recent investments in athletics.

Both are basketball schools in basketball conferences that are pretty strong.
U Mass has the edge in history and conference but it is similar.

Both have recently spent thirty million improving football .
FOC and stadium improvements without increasing capacity.

Both have seventeen thousand seats.
Both would hurt their marquee program by leaving their current Olympic sports conference.

Either one would probably only join the Sun Belt football only.
Missouri state has the advantage of geography but also has to make the leap. Making that jump takes a little faith and is a gamble . Making it while knowingly screwing your basketball program decreases your odds of success. Add to that having to make an immediate facilities investment that seems far fetched. Obviously they are welcome to join and would be a great addition.
I don't see them leaving the Valley .
I see the U Mass situation being the same except U Mass made the move.
Obviously football only isn't being offered to a school in the footprint.
Missouri state is probably hoping some Valley schools move up together one day.
Crazy as that sounds .

I thought this was going to turn into one of those Abe Lincoln - President Kennedy kinda comparisons.
whats the point of only bringing them in for football ? They both suck in football and will be years before they start paying dividends for the conference, and the sports we need them to strengthen the conference, Mass, basketball, Missouri State, baseball, basketball, they are leaving out, we don't need anymore football schools, we have that covered, we need basketball and baseball schools
Amen!!! Not sure why Missouri St keeps being brought up when they haven't been successful in football in who knows when. I get baseball and basketball are good but they don't drive realignment.
Misery St is brought up because its a solid location and it helps build the non football sports. We could use the RPI boosts in basketball and baseball. Plus they will be better than GaSt IMO.

We're not inviting Missouri State football only, that's not what their value to the league is. They'll either take full membership or enjoy life in FCS. Same as JMU.

Western Schools have been trying to get Missouri State into the Sun Belt since 2001. Lots of old relationships and similar minded programs. Hence why they get mentioned a lot.

Mass and Missouri State both start with M.

Massachusetts has the same number of letters as Missouri State (assuming I spelled Massachusetts correctly).

Both have four syllables.

Continue the conspiracy.

Both were on the grassy knoll that fateful day.

Both have left handed presidents.

Both use Maroon and white as their colors.

Both have a broken bathroom on the second floor of their library!

The facilities part is just coincidence .
The basketball school refusing to leave a basketball conference is the important part .
Every thread mentioning future members they get a bunch of support.
U Mass is willing to play as an independent rather than mess up their basketball program.
I imagine MSU feels similar and is never going to downgrade basketball to upgrade football.

I'm sorry, but MSU basketball is not near the level that UMass is.

Sorry, as much as I love roundball, if their basketball programs are more valuable to them than football, then we're better off without them.

I'm not sure basketball is the biggest thing at Missouri State. It's just their best sport historically.
