I know this is nearly 2 months old, but its a great time to re-visit Bill Carr's comments on only giving a 3 year contract to Coach Clark.

Knowing what we know now, I would love to see your opinions, whether they've changed or not.

Especially:

Carr: Because we think that the fourth year could be the winning edge of getting the guy that we really want. It could make the difference. It could make all the difference in the world. ...

Ealy: To the board, I don't know that the salary is an issue.

Mackin: The money's not.

Ealy: I think that's more of a UAB conversation. You're looking at 450, 475 after negotiations.

Carr: Well, the fewer years you can give him, the more you want to pay him. So if you only can give him three, you pay him 450 to make it real, you know, plus we're paying his buyout, and you try to do it in a way that's to his best advantage, whatever that is ...
Quote:Mackin: We've got to go and say, "OK, Bill's come out of this thing as our No. 1 choice." I have to have (Watts') words of why a three-year contract. ... Because normally you would go, "He's our man. President, I recommend it's a five-year deal. We think we're gonna offer no more than this. OK? I'm gonna call Dr. Witt, the chancellor. I'll call Paul (Bryant Jr.) I'll call Fess (St. John). This is what we think is going to happen. We're going to offer him the job. Are you OK with that?" They say, "Yes," then you call the candidate and offer the job.

Board meddling with UAB Athletics hires, outlined step by step.

Quote:Mackin: Let's get (Watts) on the phone and see what direction he wants to go. What I don't know is how much he's going to be open to everybody talking openly about this (UA) board situation.

Mackin acknowledging that he and Watts are both aware of it, and also aware that's it's sketchy enough to warrant a private conversation.

I wish this recording made more waves than it did.
I don't understanding how there was not more made of those recordings. They clearly show the BOT's meddling in athletic affairs.
I don't either. Here is your smoking gun. One of them any way.

I would wager real money that it did and I'm no gambler. Look at the events that took place. The BOT came out strong in defense of Watts then after everything started breaking all of sudden everything went quite. Everyone knows we were screwed by this deal the issue was how to undo it without causing a major fallout in the collegiate arena.

This would have been new territory for the NCAA to legislate therefore I think back channels may have been used to aid in alleviating the stress of the situation. Technically Boosters of another school destroyed our program on purpose and it's documented......the problem is those boosters also serve on the governing board of our university as well.

From now on UAB should formally submit every item to the BOT and let them vote them up or down and from there the pattern will be there for everyone to see instead of trying to do back door deals to get things done.
