Showers and thunderstorms are expected to move through Greater Cincinnati Monday, and the area could receive more than a half-inch of rain.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook for Monday in anticipation of a 90 percent chance of storms and rain to start the week.

"Some of the storms may become severe Monday afternoon with the main threat being damaging wings, large hail and heavy rain," the weather service said in its hazardous weather outlook.

The inclement weather is forecast to affect the area mainly after 8 a.m, according to the National Weather Service.

An additional tenth of an inch of rain could fall during the nighttime hours. Rain will be intermittent through 9 p.m. when the nighttime low drop to 63.

The Reds' scheduled 7:10 p.m. first pitch against the Philadelphia Phillies seems likely to come under threat as storms clip the area into the night.

After the storms move out, rain takes a break in the forecast until Friday. The departure of rain is only giving way to hotter temperatures, however, the weather service said. The mercury is forecast to climb close to 90 degrees.

The week ahead:

Tuesday: Mostly sunny with a high near 82. Overnight lows of 63.

Wednesday: Sunny with a high of 87. Low of 66.

Thursday: Mostly sunny and a high near 88. Lows of 70.

Friday: A 40 chance of showers and thunderstorms with a high of 87. Lows of 69.
