Obviously an undefeated season would do it for any of the teams in the belt, but if you compare your schedule this year to Boise State's Last year:

vs. #19 Ole Miss* L 13–35
Colorado State W 37–24
at Connecticut* W 38–21
Louisiana–Lafayette* W 34–9
at Air Force L 14–28
at Nevada W 51–46
Fresno State W 37–27
BYU* W 55–30
at New Mexico W 60–49
San Diego State W 38–29
at Wyoming W 63–14
Utah State#25 W 50–19
Fresno State#22 (CCG) W 28–14

2 wins over top 25 teams and 1 loss and gave up a pretty big upset to Air Force.

Outside of going undefeated, what do you think gives your team a shot at the NYE bowl, or would going undefeated be the only way?
The biggest miracle in the history of college football or every other team, save 1, dropping football.
I think it would take an undefeated season for App. Losing to Clemson but winning all of the rest would not give us enough perceived quality wins to get into the picture.

Since Southern plays 2 P5s and is coming off of a stellar 2014, I think you guys would make it very interesting at 11-1, and I'd go so far as to say if one of those 11 were UGA, you'd be the favorite for the Access slot.
Obviously for Southern, I think if we were to drop one of our P5 games, it would be better for us to lose to WVU and beat UGA with that game being later in the season.

If we did go into the UGA game undefeated, and lost, I think it would depend on how much we lose by, because by that point we will probably catch a lot of similar criticism that Marshall did with their schedule, although ours this year will still be much tougher than theirs.

I think we need a top 25 victory to get in. So I say go 8-0 in conference, beat Western Mich. and beat UGA.
Probably just an airplane I suppose?

You guys are definitely in the discussion with 11-1 with a win over WVU and a loss to UGA, though
In all seriousness, probably going 11-1 and that loss comes to either Florida or Ole Miss game. Thats also assuming every other conference champ has more than one loss.
For AState it would take beating Missouri then running the table to go 11-1...would also need ULL and App St to stud out PLUS a couple of loses by Boise and a couple of other top G5 schools...hey...someone gets the bid right?
GoDaddy Bowl moving to New Years Day.
If the offensive line gels really quickly and our true freshmen DBs really pan out and our remaining receivers step up, we can do it.

Those are pretty big "ifs" though.
Boise also didn't hurt their chances by scoring 50 points or more in 5 of their last 7 games.
Last year was a little odd as there was not that one real standout G5 team. Boise State has already been there before and has an established brand, so I think that helps them. Keeping that in mind, for us, I think it would take an undefeated season.
it would probably take an undefeated season or, at worst, a one loss season for App/GS and probably some help. I don't see it happening for either team.

I really don't mind that move, but talk about being kind of insignificant....except for the fan bases of the schools playing....maybe I am wrong but ????

I know what it would take....I really think it would be easier and a whole lot more palatable to just go undefeated for anyone to get to that Jan 1 bowl
Fielding a team, but I think this scenario is a long shot for us this year.

yes a team would be the first step. I dont see that happening in me useful lifetime. my sister graduated from utsa so I followed their blog when they were getting football started. the leaders there were of the opinion that to be relevant as a potential tier 1 school they must add football and somehow get into a conference with "name schools". the saying that you are judged by the company you keep was repeated often and they did not want to be lumped in with schools like mcneese or nichols state. because they could get a deal with the alamo dome, they were able to schedule home games with well known schools such as baylor, houston, ok, state and so on before they even played a down..at uta, there is just not that kind of motivation by the leadership. they may see restarting football as a potential future option but not as a must have for the school overall.
For ANY Sun Belt school to reach the access bowl, it will require an undefeated season, with at least one of the games being against an SEC, Big XII or ACC team not named Wake Forest, and a convincing OOC win against a relevant G5 program [or a bottom tier P5]. The only way a one loss Sun Belt team gets in is if the P5 win was over a top tier SEC team and the loss was to a P5 team.

This will hold true until the PERCEPTION of the SBC on a national scale improves dramatically. This will take time. We have out-performed CUSA on the field for 4 or 5 of the last 6 years, but the PERCEPTION is still that CUSA is a better conference.
It going to take more then one SBC team doing what you say your team needs to do. It will take multiple SBC teams being ranked so we can have a quality conference win along with a win over an OOC team.
Anyone think Marshall would have been awarded the Access Bowl slot last year if they went undefeated or Boise would have still been selected?

Obviously Marshall's schedule was weaker than Boise's but Boise has the brand recognition and wins over P5's....kind of wish that scenario would have played out to see what it would take..
