If it really goes down like this, doesn't this make Ray Watts the hero of UAB football in the vein of Anakin Skywalker, the Grinch and Oskar Schindler... ESPECIALLY if he has to go against the wishes of PBJr and the UA BOT to do it.

Anybody in Whoville who completely trusts the Grinch at the end is a sucker.

No, because this isn't a movie. He has done significant damage to the university, cost it millions of dollars for no gain, and it will take a decade to fix his folly.
I just wish the "he has to go anyway" talk would die down a bit. At least for now.

We don't want him thinking over the weekend, "I'm screwed either way, so if I go down, so are they." Maybe I'm over-thinking it though.
He's a dead man walking. It its a question of how long it will be until he gets fired, er, until he "resigns for the good of the university".

The other question is how many millions of UAB's budget he will walk away from the scene of the crime with.

Put yourself in the shoes of the evil ones on the BOT. They probably understand that if Watts brings back football, the pressure on them will ease and our effort in Montgomery will lose steam. On the other hand if Watts does not to bring back football they have to understand that their "it's about money" rational will be totally exposed for the sham it always was. Surely they understand that the pressure on them will only increase exponentially and there is a possibility that in the end that they could lose some or all of their power.

If they are pragmatic, they would cut their losses and chose the former option. It just depends on whether their common sense can overcome their blotted arrogance.

What they don't know or understand is that whether or not they bring back football we are still going to track them down like bloodhounds hot on a trail and sooner or later we will get them. If they don't allow Watts to bring back the program it will just gives us a lot more ammunition with which to shoot them down.

+1
If football is not reinstated a decent portion of the $25m pledged will go straight to a PAC to bring about change in Montgomery. We still couldn't outspend the enemy, but we don't have to - the truth is on our side.
This is NOT the UA BOT's first rodeo. They, as body, have been running roughshod over opponents for decades and no one has ever stopped them. They know very well how to line up political support for their programs and are nor going to be permanently defeated by UAB football. They took down Joab Thomas over hiring Bill Curry, stopped UAB in its tracks when Jimbo Fisher was being sought and rammed Neil Callaway down our throats for years.

Perhaps they misjudged the difficulty of the task at hand and may have to retrench in their tactics, but they are not in the habit of losing long term. As several have stated, this is a prolonged war and "we have miles to go before we sleep". When will we know we have won? When our program has state of the art facilities in place, a good OCS to play in and money in the bank for the lean years most G5 programs face from time to time.

You are correct, but we have taken their greatest weapon from them, which was our apathy. Let's hope we can keep the momentum going even after we get football, rifle, and bowling back.
