I got an e-mail for this NIU ball in Sugar Grove this November, can anybody tell me what the deal is with this, have you ever gone?

I got the same e-mail. Never been to it, but it looks like a formal ball, like the Red & Black affair they have in February. My guess is they will honor the mega donors and special award recipients (like they do in February). But, that's just my guess.
With the lack of marketing around Red and Black this year, I wonder if they're splitting to 2 events now, this one more athletic focused and the Red/Black more academic focused? Or maybe slowly doing away with Red and Black?

I understand this event will be an athletic fundraising event. It will be a first class not cheap dinner at Rich Harvest. It will be open to all. Red Black is an all encomposing event which has been a big success. Save up and attend.

Any idea at price range? I am trying to convince my wife that we should do this for our November date night.

Whatever the cost (and I think it will be high), make sure you factor in the cost of a tux (or rental) if you don't already have one.

if you can afford it, it appears to be a very nice event.
The Victor E Ball silent auction is now live.

Just curious, is this the first time everyone is hearing of this? I've heard about this for a couple months now, I think I either saw it first at the UNLV game or via email, not sure. I don't follow things as closely as some others so I'm wondering how everyone missed this? FWIW, I believe it's $500 a ticket.
I think most people know about the Ball itself. Just the silent live auction started today, that's what I was posting about with the link.
The information on the Ball has been out there for several months. This is another way to pay the cost of attendance stipend, same as the earlier jersey auction, allowed by the NCAA.

The cost is $500 a ticket.

It was advertised during all the home games, on the NIU radio shows, in the Northern Now and a flyer was included with the football season tickets. I believe that I also received a post card more recently. On top of that its been brought up by Athletics all over twitter and facebook.

I think most people on here are not able to afford the $500per person donation and that is why it didn't get talked about much.

Got this email too. Can anyone, and I mean anyone clue me in on why I would want a Lou Holtz helmet? I fully get how a silent auction works. I fully understand people donate items, but it seems ABSURD to me that the majority of the auction items that will be targeted at super NIU fans feature items that have ZERO to do with NIU athletics.

one glance at ebay and you can see that NIU gear (esp football gear) sells for an absurd amount.
There are a lot of Catholics. Even amongst Huskie fans. And this is a fund raiser.

There are NIU fans who are also ND fans.

I told my boss about it who is a domer and had no affiliation to NIU. I don't care where the $$$ comes from, doubt NIU does either.
FYI they keep on adding auction items.

I also didn't realize that there is a link for "instant buy" items which right now are 4 passes to the Coaches Club or Endzone Club for the last 2 MACtion home games including game day tickets. If you can go to both of those games then basically they are auctioning them for a bit less than 1/2 price.
Don"t forget page 2!

That reminds me of a silent auction years ago. A Rick Mirer football went for $200 and John Elway went for $90.
One final bump for the auction. Anyone can bid even if you are not able to attend.
