ESPN.com reports Smith is out after 21 years.
Gotta win, or you have gotta go. Those first 15-18 years of the 21 total do not mean much. In college sports, you are either moving forward or you are moving backward.
Whitting to Baylor.
Doubt Whitting would want to go start entirely over and try to rebuild Baylor too. He is just now getting Houston where he wants and has a great class signed for next year. It is easier to win in Houston than it is Waco. Whitting might leave in 6 or 7 years but it would likely be for a much better job than one in Waco.
As I said earlier if I am Baylor I go after the DBU coach.

That's the way I would go if I were in their position. I could see the move to dump Smith being motivated in part by a feeling that they had better get Heefner now.

I believe he repeated this post from when Art Briles left for Waco (but substituted Whitting for Briles).

I saw some folks on the Baylor fan site badmouthing the DBU coach for being a bit of a prick. He might not end up being the obvious choice after all. Of course some people said that about TCU when they hired the UNLV coach.

And Briles isn't a prick?....03-lmfao
Baylor AD Ian McCaw. seems to be pretty prepared when it comes to hiring new coaches. His hires have been pretty impressive. I'm thinking there will be some facilities upgrades along with the hire. Probably an indoor hitting facility and some spiffing up of current facilities. Heefner is the name I am hearing the most.
@KendallRogersD1: This is a really interesting interview with long-time @BaylorBaseball skipper @BUCoach34. Worth a watch: http://t.co/5mAr35Qun0

I found the interview very interesting, but sort of long.

It would surprise me too, but the San Antonio paper listed the DBU coach, Whitting, the UCSB coach, and Skip Johnston as early named candidates.

I have heard Pierce's name mentioned, but haven't seen it in print.
Looks like Baylor hired Steve Rodriguez, the Pepperdine head coach.

Trading Malibu for Waco? Unfathomable. There must be an awful lot of money being thrown around.
