It’s believed the Sun Belt, which is looking to add one more program, is waiting to learn the fate of Alabama-Birmingham before making any firm decision regarding membership.
As they should, but it doesn't mean We want to be there. Why would we want to be in a conference with Troy State and Mobile?
We've been in conference with South Al before. And honestly, I would rather be in the Sun Belt than the ASun. I just don't see us getting in to the MVC or the A10. Plus, the Sun Belt would be a very competitive place for us when we get football back.
If football comes back this month it's a moo point. I would agree that Sun Belt sure as hell beats going A-Sun. Travel costs would be significantly less than MVC, if Watts is actually concerned about money.

The thought of swapping places(from CUSA) with a SunBelt team makes me wanna...
I'm not a fan of the perceived "step back" in football to the Sun Belt, but one has to admit it would probably be a pretty big boost to the game day atmosphere - more teams within easy driving distance = more butts in the seat. We'd also have an improved chance of winning that conference compared with C-USA.

Plus I'd get to see the Blazers when they come to the Dome to whip up on GaState...which would be awesome. Purely selfish, but still a valid reason!
There are some good things football-wise and a couple with other sports(vs GaState in basketball and USA in softball, for instance), but overall it hurts the other sports programs, especially basketball...
The Belt just re-started men's soccer as a league sport. So that is where UAB would play. Last year's records for members:

1. NJIT 7-8-4
2. Georgia Southern 8-9-0
3. Appalachian State 7-8-3
4. Howard 2-15-2
5. Georgia State 8-10-0
6. Hartwick 6-10-4

Moving to the MVC would be big step down from C-USA. Moving to the Sun Belt would be a plummet.

Why build a multi-million $ soccer stadium and then host NJIT and Hartwick for conference games?

I will always have a lot of nostalgia for the Old Sun Belt (1977-91) that had the Jags, the Blazers, UNCC, South Florida, ODU, and WKU among others. That was a rough neighborhood and the league enjoyed genuine national respect. But times have changed and the new Sun Belt -- while it does have some strengths -- would still be a step back for UAB. The Blazers have a good home right now with C-USA. Don't let go of that.

Soccer will be hurt if football doesn't return. That's just the facts. :/
I know conference affiliation is all about the dollars, but I agree rivalries with South, Troy, Ga Southern, App State etc are more exciting to think about than Rice and UTEP.
Programs are looking to get out of the Sun Belt just like the Atlantic Sun - both would be terrible moves...if we have to make a change I look for us and one other team to join the MVC and bring their membership to 12...if I'm not mistaken there's not a team in the MVC that has been to more NCAA Tournaments than UAB (some have gone deeper but not as many times)

Odds are South Alabama would take our place in C-USA

Yeah, I thought mute point was bad until I hit moo point.

It"s a moot point, guys.

UAB dropping to the Sun Belt would be the beginning of the death of UAB Athletics.

I'm pretty sure anybody that says"moo point" is quoting the friends episode.
I use it all the time
I don't usually go all Grammar Nazi, but that's one that rubs me the wrong way. Maybe its because I wasn't a big "Friends" watcher, but it just looks as ignorant as "mute point" to me. I'm also not big on someone who when we are introduced shakes my hand and says "Good to know you." You don't know me, you goober, you just met me. The other real hot button for me is "I did it on accident". No you didn't, you did it BY accident.

English usage is how people measure and judge those that they do not know. Humans tend to measure and judge those around them and slot them into mental categories. Small errors in useage can make you look bad.
