Not really. He was the leading candidate from the moment the rumors started that Brooks was going to be fired. He had a long time connection with the owner who had already hired a couple of guys from Donovan's staff.

Archie Miller and Chris Mack. Michael White has been mentioned, but his lack of NCAA appearances will likely disqualify him.
