Looks like they may stay for this coming year, but if they don't re-institute football will be out the following year.

Hard for me to see them reversing course and restarting football with all of the guys that are no longer around. That would have been an extremely wasteful year for them.

I wonder how their donor base has responded since the announcement.

Report on second look at UAB’s football budget numbers is expected to be released Friday morning. Watts has pledged to make a decision on football by June 1. Let's hope he reverses his earlier decision. Not easy admitting you were wrong in such a high profile situation.
LOL. Next week it's my turn to start a UAB thread...
Rumor this morning that Ray Watts will recommend that UAB bring football back. Still needs approval from Board of Trustees.
It would be for the best. CUSA needs UAB, plus it would be nice to put an end to all this realignment nonsense.
He can recommend it but that doesn't mean they'll approve it. Could just be Ray's way of shifting some of the blame.
But I wanted the tournament in Norfolk!!!!

Me too, but this is the one reason for it not being here this coming season that is more than acceptable to me.

this pretty much means that they won't bring it back. the BoT are bullies here and they won't change their minds.
I wouldn't be surprised if the BOT demands a cost analysis of bringing back football, which would be insane given the circumstances.

Dang, this could be so spot on. Watts gets off the hot-seat by saying bring football back but then the blame shifts to the BoT who say no because restarting is the wrong way to go now. Watts is redeemed enough to stay on as President and the board gets to keep their favorite stooge on the job as their number one lackey. UAB folks shift most/all their hatred to the BoT but the Board does not care and is used to it. If it really does go this way, somehow, somewhere Machiavelli will be smiling ear-to-ear. 05-stirthepot

Pretty spot on... except the BOT will say the money was there to keep football, but it's too expensive to re-start it. And there will be plenty of hate left for Watts.
They're back!!!

Now we can stop worrying about raiding the Big South or CAA.

Well, I don't they'd be making a big deal of the announcement if nothing was changing.

EDIT: We're still keeping that CB right?

I'd think so. Even if UAB brings back football on the shortest timeline possible, they won't be playing in 2015. Not sure if they have to do the two years of FCS before reentering FBS, though if they're starting with essentially a blank slate, they might be best advised to go that route.
The goal is 2016 and they have a $7.5 million gift pending a decision to build their own stadium. I wouldn't be surprised if the kid we signed wants to go back. Interesting dilemma for us if it happens
He may want to go back, but he's going to have to burn a year of eligibility if they don't play this fall. He's already redshirted.
