Still hearing conflicting reports about James White. He supposedly asked for his release. Does that mean he is definitely leaving? Who knows? Coach Beard has done an unbelievable job holding this team together. If we only lose James Reid, it would be an amazing feat for a new coach. James White apparently needs some more hours to graduate, so it's far from a done deal. But, we desperately need some size if James leaves, to go along with Gus' graduation.
James White asked for release last week, he is going to the University of Georgia.

Interesting. I had heard Georgia Tech. Well I will be rooting for him, big time, in at least one or maybe 2 games next year. I like James and can't really begrudge a player leaving when the coach who recruited him is gone. Still hope there's a chance he might change his mind, but it doesn't sound like that is very likely.

If that's true, I hate to hear it, but James has given us everything he had during his years here, and wish him nothing but the best. If he ends up in the NBA, will he be listed as being from Georgia or UALR?04-cheers

I needed another team to root for with Colorado State. Might as well be Georgia. I root for them at least twice a year anyway. They don't play CSU or my other favorite team, Boise State, do they?
We're going to have so many teams to root for we won't be able to watch them all. It would have been better if all our transfers went to the same school. We could have a starting five of former Trojan players.

We know James W. is going to play in his home state. Still not sure where since folks have mentioned GaTech, GaSt, and now Georgia. Georgia does seem like the best option, of those, if he wants to play in the NCAA tournament next year.
I was the one who inadvertently mentioned Ga State instead of Ga Tech, which I meant. Ga Tech was the only one I had hear mentioned until Georgia.
Don't understand following a player who has bailed out of a team.....??????
I don't exactly understand James' logic, but I'll certainly be interested to see how he does somewhere else. What confuses me is that he's been a teammate of a number of our returning players and you would think there would be a bonding where he would want to finish his career with his friends. Well, maybe they aren't that good of friends. We don't know what goes on in people's minds. I'm not buying season tickets to the University of Georgia, Colorado State, or Boise State, but since I've followed these young men here at UALR, I'll just be curious to see how they do as they finish out their careers. I think it rather hypocritical that we are upset when a player chooses to leave our program, but we have no problem when our coaches get rid of kids who can't help us on the court. Not everyone. I know this bothers MJS, since he's commented on it previously. James has contributed to our program. Let's thank him and all move on to those who have committed to be part of the Trojan family.

Not "upset"........Mr. Outsider Dude....!!! Loyalty is a trait that seemingly has been lost in today's youth. How can you be loyal to someone who demonstrates un-loyalty........01-wingedeagle

Neither do I. Most of the posts have been sarcastic in nature, because we had a couple of "fans" talked about how much they were enjoying following Colorado State's NIT team after John Gillon transferred there. Fans of most teams don't show much love for players who have transferred to what they believe our greener pastures.
Not loyal. Just curious. But you're right. When I think of someone like Albert Pujols, who could have retired as the modern version of Stan Musial in St. Louis, who is making more money than he can probably ever reasonably spend, and he leaves for supposedly greener pastures. Kids see if all the time growing up. Professional players become free agents and leave the team that gave them a chance to be a star. So with these type of role models, what can you expect. You gave me the opportunity to receive a college degree. Great. Now I've got it, I'll go somewhere else and play. It's a sign of the times. With that said, teams trade players, colleges cut players, so it cuts both ways. I'm sad that James is leaving, if that's his choice, but there are a lot more things in the world more important to get upset over then a kid transferring to another school to play basketball.
I am surprised about James leaving. He has been here 4 years and, like Outside mentioned, you would think he has built up friendships with some of the other guys that have been here multiple years. Still with 600+ transfers, this off season, there are a lot of kids who change schools for many different reasons. James W. can, at least, take advantage of the senior transfer rule and play next season. Crazy to me, that James Reid is willing to sit out a whole year when he would have been a huge part of this year's offense if he stayed here.
That was a bigger surprise than James W. leaving. You think a juco, who has two years to play, comes in, and guarantees big minutes next season, would have no reason to leave. But sometimes there are family issues we aren't aware of. Maybe there's a family situation where James R. feels he needs to be closer to home. Anyway, I loved having the kid here, and hope all is well with his family. I got to meet them in Las Vegas, and they're really nice folks. Plus we don't know how his meeting with Coach Beard went. Could have been he felt he wouldn't have as large a role as we believe he would have. Anyway he's gone after this semester, so all we can do is wish him luck, and hope Coach Beard can find another shooter to replace him.

Mjs, I have a TON of respect for you, like you a lot, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a bigger Trojan fan than you, but please don't call my fandom into question because we follow players that left, or wanted a different coach, or chose to send a message by not giving money to a program they felt wasted it. I know you don't understand it, just like I don't understand how anyone could stop caring about their favorite team, and that's perfectly fine. I know a lot of this is borne out of Scotto's constant little digs at you over the years, but don't let that color your opinion of whether or not people like me are real fans or not. My late dad (who you knew and worked with) raised me on the Trojans, and those trips to Barton Coliseum with him will always be one of my fondest memories. I feel just as passionate as you do about our team, but as a psychologist you know that passion can manifest in many different ways.

I say all of this not as a dig at you, but as an plea to you and Jim T to not lower yourself into that mess with others and join us as fans, albeit with different ways of showing it.

Are you saying that you were rooting for John Gillon to light it up at Colorado State? Doesn't make you less of a UALR fan, but it just seems odd to me that you would root for a player that abandoned your favorite team after one season. I wasn't necessarily rooting for him to break a leg, but it would irk me quite a bit if he became an all-American. I won't hold any animosity toward James White because he has worked hard and played hard for 4 years at UALR. I might even find myself rooting for him because he is a great kid. I am pretty much ambivalent toward James Reid, since he was only here for a cup of coffee and I really don't understand his leaving. I do know that hog fans have booed players unmercifully, upon their return to the state, when they have transferred to another school. I doubt many WKU fans were rooting for the kid who transferred out and went to Kentucky. Still, I know you are a great fan and don't question that, just because you pull for players who transfer out. Good fans can have different opinions on that issue.
Yes, I was rooting for Gillon to do well. He left because, in my personal opinion, Steve inanely recruited not one but two JC guards over him. We can argue whether or not he shied away from the challenge but he felt he didn't have an investment in his role on the team. He's doing pretty well at Colorado St. so it seems he made the good choice for him. I can't begrudge him that. I wish he was still with us, but I felt the same as he did...that was the moment my passion turned to a measure of indifference. I felt as betrayed as he did. If he becomes an all American, great. He wasn't going to do it under Steve. I feel James' White and Reid are making a bad choice but with their coach leaving I can't begrudge his position either.

I agree, though, great fans can have different opinions. It doesn't make any of us less of a fan, however.

I agree with that. It would be very unusual for no players to leave following a coaching change. If only James Reid leaves I will feel like Coach Beard did an incredible job keeping the team together. James White leaving certainly hurts, but I don't hold any animosity toward him. If he helps the Dogs beat the hogs a couple of times, I'll be more than okay with it.
I'm pleased to read that this mini-skirmish has been resolved. Otherwise, the pig-nosed mafia would've achieved their goal..end-fighting amongst the Trojan faithful until implosion. Now, we've a new coach with a new outlook on things for next season and beyond. I don't know whom Coach Beard will sign for next season, players and assistant coaches, but I know this for sure: The Jack will be rockin' and Little Rock will make an impact on the Sun Belt & the NCAA...BELIEVE THAT!!!!
