With the Chargers on the verge of joining the Raiders in an NFL stadium in LA in 2016, SDSU and it's fans are about to be huge winners. No NFL team to compete with in a huge beautiful city will be a game changer for them. Qualcomm stadium has to give SDSU 5 more years after the Chargers leave so either they get the Q to themselves for good, or they build an OCS on their West Campus. Lucky them....Fresno benefits a bit too with the Raiders leaving Oakland as they heavily recruit the area and have a good amount of students from their. Oakland Raider fans have to follow someone and it sure won't be the LA Raiders, 49'ers, Cal or Stanford. Lucky skunks....
UH probably thought they would benefit when the Oilers left but people still didnt care about them.
Don't remind me what could've been with SDSU and Villanova chicks are the ugliest I've ever seen

Losing two-thirds of thier games (including an 0-11 season) had a little something to do with that.
I've never been to Qualcomm Stadium but I've heard it's not in good shape. "Legion Field of the West Coast" one friend called it. Even allowing for a lot of exaggeration it doesn't seem like a viable long-term solution for the Aztecs

Wrong again, YOU 07-coffee3

Troll
Eh, honestly, at the end of the day, it's still SDSU, and nobody cares.

No real draw or attraction unless you went there.
Also there is no way in hell the stadium would be finished by 2016.

no NFL team in your immediate market is a bigger deal than most realize. It's the same with UCF-Orlando vs USF-Tampa. All things equal USF will never bc a bigger focus than the TB Bucs if both are winning at the same time.
No Oakland Raiders fans are going to become Fresno St fans just because the Raiders are going to LA.

It was Rice that was on the verge of benefiting the most, it was Rice the city wanted to rally behind but it always seemed like they were a game away from breaking through in the 90's.
I could see SDSU getting a 3k-5k bump from the Chargers leaving. I don't have last year's numbers handy, but in 2013 SDSU was around 33k in attendance, which is near the top in the G5. We can say no one cares about SDSU, but the fact is... they are outdrawing most of the AAC.
The fact that the Chargers are leaving makes it all the more painful that SDSU didn't stay with the conference...
I don't see it making much of a difference. Anyone that can regularly afford tickets, parking, concessions, etc... to go to Chargers games can easily just drive to LA, even on a Monday or Thursday night to see them.

MBB is a different story, but I agree on football... Unless/until the Aztecs get an OCS. That could make a big difference. But it doesn't seem like that's going to happen anytime soon

Once again, they draw 33k, which is more than most of our conference...
Tickets sold or actual attendance? Tulane used to count 27,000 sometimes in their last few years of the Superdome.

I agree with this^^^^^^Rice was on the verge until the WAC 16 blew up and the 8 teams formed the MWC and then TCU went CUSA....Rice was having some very solid seasons until that....Big wins in the 90's for Rice, Oilers leaving, Coogs going east....it looked like Rice with their 70k JFK famous football stadium, emerging baseball powerhouse etc. Owls were on the way up.....Sad. I actually like Rice.

No, they won't go to LA to watch the Chargers. Did they go to LA to watch the Clippers when they left? No.
