A shot at the big time in the big 10, and in case you're wondering NIU is the traveling partner they imply on the 4th slide. It could work boys... keep our little Boca Raton bowl rivalry going and turn it into a huge plus for both schools!
Not a snow balls chance in hell that will ever happen. We are in Conference USA for the long term. Its up to the conference to start winning some big out of conf games and that will go a long way to get all of us some respect. Until that happens we wont

Some people shouldn't be allowed to write on the Internet. I love Marshall, but come on. In what world would Marshall ever be allowed in a league with almost all AAU schools?

I swear. The internet is degrading society.
Well I'll be honest I'm not a Marshall fan lol I'm an NIU fan who came here to see on your end how feasible it actually it. I guess not very... it's a bit easier for NIU i guess being in the Chicago TV market and geographically much more convenient but i didnt think it was TOO far fetched.
Where are these posters coming from ? The University of Missouri was not good enough for the Big 10 but they are
Going to go after Marshall ? I love being in a league with
Marshall, I wanted them to go to the access bowl last year.

I don't know why we always get these crazy posts about teams being added and new conferences
Springing up and conference mergers all of it is not going to happen.

New conferences are not going to form without
A piece of the CFP monies, Mergers will not happen
Cusa and MWC tried that and the NCAA said no addition
Bids

A school or two may change a spot
But that will be limited

The Internet kills brain cells. Go drink moon shine, smoke weed and save yourself.

Lesser qualified schools have been accepted to conferences they don't deserve, TV money is gonna be a much bigger factor than people care to admit sooner or later and dat Chicago market yo

What about the Chicago market? That's rhetorical so let me answer it for you. NIU shares it with Notre Dame (among others), which means you have such an infinitesimal share of it that it's essentially worthless to even mention.

And news flash for you the Big 10 already has the Chicago market cornered. They don't need another team there. This should have been made clear to you when the Big Ten attempted to entice Georgia Tech.

If anything the only way in which your market becomes valuable is to a league like C-USA where it can gain entrance into a new market and further cut into share of the other G5 leagues such as the MAC. So, if you want to have that conversation that's fine, but that article is mind-numbingly asinine and any conversation about is likewise the same.

Welp i guess that makes NIU AAC bound =/ which makes me nervous since every team there is dying to get out and it's one good P5 raid from being irrelevant...

Really?
AAC is already irrelevant.... and i doubt NIU ever moves from the MAC to the AAC. See post above, you dont have enough fams to be a divison 1 school technically, id work on expanding your brand so an argument can be made that you bring some value in that big tv market besides a good football team. Exactly what the p5 likes to see is happenimg here though, g5s tearing each other down.

There is a new order at play now.

With the playoff in place (which is now to payout more than our TV deals) and the new legislation that will allow teams to play championship games with less than 12 teams expansion or even adding back within the G5 leagues will decrease and essentially become self defeating.

Why add teams for a TV deal that pays less per team than you get from being the top one or two G5 leagues?

Market size is about to become as irrelevant as it was before the 1980's CFA fiasco. Conferences will now strive to find the right niche of schools and the right number for scheduling purposes. There is no longer a need to have big mega conferences unless you're a power conference trying to steal share of the other power conference. If the AAC is raided they may not add at all and will only add the right school(s) for a very specific reason (i.e. scheduling, geography, etc).

All that said, congrats on the run you guys have had. Impressive considering the resource limitations.

That sounds nice and all but out of those possibilities only one is possible. The BYU to the B12 is the only one plausible. And only if the elders that run things there say they will play on Sunday.

Boise to the PAC12/B12---No market, academics, not happening.

UCF to the ACC, not as long as Miami and Fl State are there, and neither are going to the SEC.

Marshall to B10/B12 Back to winning which is great, but we don't have the academics or the 45K attendance. We would never get in the B12 with the Who there.

NIU to the B10, not gonna happen either, NIU might be in the Chicago market but you don't carry it. Also the attendance and academics aren't there.

For NIU even to make it to the AAC they would have to join CUSA and after NIU leaving the MAC and having a failed experiment as an independent and Big West from 86-96 I don't see them jumping anytime soon.

Umm, there is a less directional Illinois already in the Big10 and already in the Chicago tv market. Just saying.
