*Out of the 61 teams in the Group of Five conferences, Toledo ranked 36th with an average of 19,548 per game last season.

*That puts Toledo 3rd in the MAC, behind Ohio (29th) and Buffalo (31st).

*The MAC was the worst overall Group of Five conference in terms of attendance numbers, having a league average of only 14,984 fans per game.

*There needs to be an asterisk next to Emu's reported numbers as they reported 15,025 (more like 500) per game, which is ranked better than Niu (54th).

Maybe there should be an asterask besides Toledo for playing those crowd killing weekday games in November.
Not terribly impressive numbers. Variety of reasons for that--some controllable, and others not so much.

+1
If Toledo wins 8 or more games I see our attendance numbers being #1 in the MAC this year. 5 games in great weather, a reason to come to 4/5 (home opener, Big12, bowl rematch, homecoming). Our two biggest MAC contests are during November... and even though midweek hurts us, it hurts other schools much much more. Toledo can actually bring 20k+ to midweek games. I bet we average over 23.5k for 2015. Conservatively.... hoping we don't get pounced with bad weather, and that we don't suck. But hey? If this team is 11-1, seven home games could bring glory day attendances back to the Glass Bowl. Well, maybe not 36,000....
Disappointing that Buffalo out drew us. But like they said...mid-week games kill us.
Toledo IMO is a victim of geography. There aren't too many other D1 programs that have to compete in the shadow of three historic powerhouses like OSU, UM and ND. If we were the only D1 school in our area, the quality of the UT program could draw 60k+/-. Nine D1 schools in state and weeknight games also hurt attendance.

Frankly it is pretty sad to see what TV has done to the college "game" which is no longer a sport but just marketed (and oversold) as entertainment no different than a sitcom or a reality TV show. In 2001 UT averaged just a tad over 30,000 per home game which put us ranked NATIONALLY somewhere around 75th (out of 115 or so teams) as I recall off the top of my head---not great, but at least respectable. For 2014 even with a nice increase in attendance over that simply awful 2013 schedule (and corresponding awful attendance) we still finished 3rd in the MAC ---the conference with the the worst attendance in all of non-Division II or III college football. We are not even in the top half of the mid-majors in attendance and our rank is something like number # 103 out of 128 or 129 teams!!!!

Even back in 2000 & 2001 when attendance was good (by comparison to today) the team always ranked higher on the field than than it did in attendance but at least we led the MAC which we don't even do anymore. Of course both the 2000 and 2001 teams were in the top 25 at some point during the season whereas last year maybe the team was able to break into the top 50 or 60 at some point during the season.
I'm a firm believer that winning cures everything. In our case, consistently winning is what needs to happen. Win, and they will come.
Adjusted real median household income for Toledo in 2005 was $51,068 last figure I could find was $42,792 for 2013. The 2014 number I believe will be released in December 2015.

OSU, ND, UK, and even UM have significant fan bases in the Cincinnati area. Cincy considers itself a Pro Sports town with HS sports being really big. For a long time UC FB was no better or worse than the MAC. It wasn't
until the move to the Big East that the FB program really started to grow.

Agree----from the early 1990s up until the Bearcats got in the Big East, most years UT put a better product on the field and often had more fans in the stands as well. I seem to recall that one year in order to buy season tickets for Bearcat MBB, you also had to buy season tickets for football. MBB is where the Bearcats had an absolutely unbelievable monstrous edge over the Rockets: for the 25 year interval starting in 1990 and continuing until the present they sent their men's basketball team to the NCAA Tournament 19 times----not too shabby----their FB was mid-major but their MBB was MAJOR. I always thought (and often said) after the 2001 season I believed that UT football (on the field and in the stands) was probably good enough for the Big East, but the Big East was a basketball driven conference and without any recent MBB credentials UT was not going to get a sniff.
