I just received this letter from the UA Alumni Association. It looks straight from the PR Firm.

Dear Fellow Members:

Senate Bill 348 has been introduced in the Alabama Legislature that would be highly detrimental to The University of Alabama System and all of our campuses. Currently all members of the Board of Trustees serve the System as a whole, which has produced tremendous success over the years.

This bill would inject politics into the selection of Trustees and pit our campuses against each other. The issue is driven by a small group who want to take our valuable academic funding and divert it to fund football at UAB. Senate Bill 348 must be stopped in Montgomery.

Your Senator serves on the committee that will consider Senate Bill 348 this week. It is important as a respected supporter that you contact your Senator and ask him to vote NO on Senate Bill 348. Please take five minutes to call. Committee members and their phone numbers are listed below.

Senator Paul Bussman (Cullman, Lawrence and Winston Counties) 334-242-7855
Senator Del Marsh (Calhoun and Talladega Counties) 334-242-7877
Senator Jim McClendon (St. Clair and Shelby Counties) 334-242-7898
Senator Trip Pittman (Baldwin County) 334-242-7897
Senator Shay Shelnut (Blount and North Jefferson Counties) 334-242-7794

It is critical that you call your Senator before Wednesday and urge a NO vote on Senate Bill 348.

Thank you.

Two things:

1) This shows the Machine is worried about our progress.
2) Can we get our Alumni Society to send a "vote yes" letter? We can exclude Wes Smith if need be.
Hahaha. It would inject politics into the selection of trustees? What the **** is going on right now? And pitting campuses against one another? It's all fine and well as long as it's a one way street I suppose.
Calling Shelnut tomorrow.

My wife and I played this little game this weekend. Of all the die hard Bama fans we know, only two of them actually attended college there.
We need everyone calling now. The Senate is not in session today so the Senators are not in their office, but their secretaries will take down your information and voting wishes and pass along the message.
How did the UA Alumni Association get mixed into this?
Who is pulling their strings & how?
Begging for a no vote with no explanation why besides "it will be detrimental to the system". They should have just asked pretty, pretty please.

03-lmfao I haven't had a good belly laugh like that one in a long time.

"Currently all members of the Board of Trustees serve the System as a whole, which has produced tremendous success over the years." (His nose is in danger of exploding.)

"The issue is driven by a small group who want to take our valuable academic funding and divert it to fund football at UAB." (A small group = vocal minority. Does he know that UAB money is much more likely to be diverted to support UAT academics)

"This bill would inject politics into the selection of Trustees and pit our campuses against each other." (What in the hell does he think he is trying to do.)

This guy must be their Wes Smith.
If this isn't a declaration of war by their alumni society, I don't know what is. We have to take the high road because there are too many UA fans and alumni, but we need as many of the split-loyalty fans as possible to attack this.
"The University of Alabama System, Separate but Equal."
George III might have sent such a letter to the colonists in 1776. "These few troublemakers (it is generally accepted that only about 1/3 of American colonists backed independence) are intent on disrupting the colonial system that has served England so well". Autocrats never change their ways voluntarily.
Everyone call them all today! leave your name and phone number for a return call.
Jimmy Warren is the owner of TotalCom in Tuscaloosa. So that letter was written by a professional marketer, whose largest sphere of influence would be Tuscaloosa itself. He was also born in Tuscaloosa.

I don't think anyone had to ask for him to sign. It's in his personal best interest.
What a total crock of $hIIItola. What planet does that guy come from , anyhow?? Anybody who doesnt have a dog in this fight can clearly see what has been going on for years and years---- 1 campus ( in Tuscaloosa ) spawns the decision makers who become members of the BOT and who self-perpetuate their powerful positions on the BOT and then pick replacements who are of a similar lineage.

Evidently "Jimmy" isn't all that bright because he doesn't seem to have the latest list of the Senate Education Committee members. It looks like he only included the he only included the five Republican members of the committee. Surprise, three Democrats on the committee can vote too. Also It doesn't appear that Senator Del Marsh is still on the committee this year. It looks like he has been replaced on the Republican side by Senator Dick Brewbaker.
So here is the entire list:

Senator Paul Bussman - 334-242-7855
Dick Brewbaker - 334242-7895
Senator Jim McClendon - 334-242-7898
Senator Trip Pittman - 334-242-7897
Senator Shay - 334-242-7794
Quiton Ross- 334-242-7880
Vivian Figures- 334-242-7871
Hank Sanders - - 334-242-7860

As noted, the Senators are not in their offices today, so it will only take a few minutes to call all seven of these folks and leave a message to urge them to support the UAB bills in the Education Committee. You might want to mention that "we'll see you Wednesday" because we will have a delegation in the the Education Committee room when they meet Wednesday Let's it done today!
Brewbaker lists the same home town as AG Luther Strange did in the last election - Pike Road. Where is Pike Road, AL?
I would also encourage everyone to email Wes Smith and ask that the NAS issue a response.

wsmith@mayerelectric.com
just sent one to Wes. It's time he picks a side.
Pot , meet kettle.
