Kind of surprised at this...thought the McDonald's All American Big Man was a Orange Lock:

It was up in the air as to whether or not we could take him anyway. The 3 scholarship reduction was to start in in 2016-17 because we already had more than 10 scholarships committed to returning eligible and LOI signed new recruits.

With McCullough going to the NBA and with BJ Johnson and Ron Patterson transferring (although I'm not sure the latter is official yet) that gets us down to:

Coleman
Cooney
Roberson
Joseph
Gbinije
Obokoh

and the 2015 recruiting class of

Richardson
Diagne
Lydon
Howard

That's 10 there. So the question may have been would the NCAA allowed us to even sign Bryant? The staff supposedly stopped talking to him weeks ago. Makes me think they may have been informed the scholarship reduction penalty would now begin next year (again, assuming Patterson does indeed transfer). If he doesn't we still may not have been allowed to take Bryant.

Not sure what if any impact an appeal by SU would have on any of this.

Anyway, we will be hampered for the next two years at least.

Cheers,
Neil

I think Syracuse decided that it would be better to start the scholarship restriction immediately rather than postpone it for a year (which they would have been allowed to do). The fact that they were able to get down to the limit of 10 without withdrawing any scholarships involuntarily made that a pretty easy choice IMO. If they had delayed just to sign one player who might leave early anyway it could have been more painful.

Not sure BJ Johnson and Ron Patterson transferring can be considered "voluntary", but yes, I get your point.

We'll be a bubble team at best the next two years. Although JB has done some of his best coaching when not much is expected.

I hope you're wrong about that. That's still not a bad roster. Maybe not Final Four quality, but this year at least I expect them to contend for the double bye in the ACCT.
I noticed that Temple is now 5th place in all time wins and Syracuse dropped to 6th. I guess that's because of all the vacated wins taking affect.
Yes
Bryant wants to get away from home. Like 600 miles away.

I wish his family lived in Indiana. 03-hissyfit

Im sure there were a number of reasons, but the biggest reason, is that he hasn't heard from SU coaches since before the NCAA announced their sanctions against SU.

I don't know. I figure it has something to do with not having scholarships available. Im sure they had some contact with him. No matter what, you still should let these kids know where they stand. This is their future these coaches are playing with. Now that McCullough has declared, I bet they wish they had stayed in touch with him. On the other hand, some of these kids that are ranked really high are like premadonnas (sp?) Not staying in constant touch with them can be like a Dis.
Did the sanctions include a reduction in contact with recruits THIS year? Maybe they are already at the limit...?

I have no idea. I would bet that TexasMark or Neil or someone would know better than I would.

Because he told the staff months ago that he wanted to get away from home.
The only good news is Cuse can start their probation next season. No idea on Bryant other that what Orangextreme is saying. Momma wanted him home...he didn't want to stay home.
