Well the Shaka Watch is in full swing, with Texas looking to open their purse to Shaka. Might be too much to turn down.

Didn't take long for Rick Barnes to land a job UTenn. What a great coach, he's won everywhere he's been. In one season he made GMU a 20 game winner and at Texas to only miss the NCAAs once in 17 years.

Ritchie McKay the first to leave staff in Tony Bennett's 6 seasons at UVa. Don't be surprised if another joins him at Liberty. Does this open the door for Tony to go after Bryant Stith, they love him in C'Ville. We love him, hope we keep him and his son. Pony up Wood.
Wasn't he head coach at Liberty once before?

man, I was just chatting with one of my UVA friends saying we're trying to poach little stith (whether we are or not is irrelevant) and I never thought of them trying to poach papa stith.

yes
While Stith is clearly connected to UVA, he's also connected to Jones and he's not going to leave his son who transferred to be here with him.

Don't think that's a worry right now.
Plus his daughters are playing ball at Maury, the homestead is closer to Norfolk. On the otherside remember he is one of five guys with jersey's retired at UVa. Need to give the guy a bump, he has been equally as important to this turn around.
Dear Wood,

Please give Stith a raise. Please give all the basketball coaches a raise too.

Sincerely ,
Monarch fan named Mac
Mac thanks. I love the guy.

Wow, Shaka Smart is looking good as gone.

I suspect everyone on the hoops staff is going to get a nice bump.

I'll believe it when I see him behind a podium.

All based off of 1 tweet by this guy:

Still shaking my head at how Texas thinks firing Rick Barnes, a proven, perennial winner, and going for Shaka Smart is an upgrade and gives them any better chance at a national title. I guess we'll see if Smart is a one trick pony (havoc) or has a clue how to change styles based on availability of talent.
Im not sure that hiring Shaka is the smartest move, but getting rid of Barnes is smart. The guy can't win with talent. They should be competing for national titles.
Agreed. Barnes and Texas got stale together. Both of them will probably be better after the change.

Sat with two guys from Lawrenceville at the Murray State game: one owns the funeral home the other on town council. Both good friends with the Stith family and they believe we are good with Stith for at least as long as his son is here. They really enjoy following him and are gonna become season ticket holders

Thanks for sharing that story with us, and I hope we have all of these Stith's as members of Monarch Nation for the next several years at a minimum. They all seem like good people.

McKay did coach Liberty for 2 years before his 6 year run as an Asst at UVA. I'm guessing about half of the LU fans are scratching their heads on this one. McKay in the past as HC has stayed 2 years at 4 schools then departed. He's never stayed longer than 2 years. I'm in the skeptic camp and I'm not alone. Hopefully the bloodline connection will override the student, past glory experience for Stith and ODU.
More dominoes soon to be falling as a result of the news out of Texas tonight.

Good post. It will be very interesting to see how Shaka performs at Texas. Personally, I think the Longhorns too a step backwards. Time will tell.
