in Chasse's office. Love to know who he and Fogler are considering. I wonder if Mark Downey is in the race? Of course there are things we probably don't know about him, but his resume sounds like exactly what we've been looking for. A youngish man with a winning resume as a head coach, and according to one of our posters, he's a heck of a recruiter.

I would imagine Chasse would at least look at him since we've suggested that he checks him out. Doesn't mean he will hire him, but he's got to look at the guy if for no other reason than Downey's a proven winner, and his goal is to coach at the D1 level and I would think we could afford him at this time. He didn't coach at Army, but maybe he could turn out to be another Bobby Knight or Coach K. Without Bobby's temper.04-cheers

I have no indication that Downey is in the picture, other than Wally mentioning his name. Not sure how Wally knows anything because I doubt Chasse is consulting him. I think Joe and Darrell wanted their names out for obvious reasons. They have friends in high places. I'm pretty sure most other candidates don't want their names out there. It can only lead to Wally or someone of his ilk printing or leaking something negative about them that would hurt their chances and help the local favorite. If a candidate is a head coach (DII or whatever) he certainly doesn't want his boss to know he is looking elsewhere. I would think most head coaches want there assistants to get head jobs, even if it hurts their program in the short term.

PTJR probably recalls the search Mike Hamrick ran after Newell left. We apparently were close to hiring the coach from Rice (Thompson? Why he would want to come here, I'm not sure but at that point UALR had made a run of postseason appearances). Wally printed his name as a candidate and he quickly pulled his name out of the hat. At that time Wally wanted Jimmy Dykes.
