Tucson (MW/C-USA) & Little Rock (AAC/SB) expect to apply for new bowls, sources told @ESPN. Would be 42 bowls in 2015
Would like it if the Potato Bowl actually relocated to Arizona.

I guess the LA Christmas bowl is out of luck or lost momentum.
Hair Thompson needs fired... hard to imagine anything more boring than a THIRD bowl against CUSA. We need more bowls against power conferences, not boring-ass **** bowls against third-rate conferences like CUSA and the MAC.
The MWC and American should be playing in Arizona. Little Rock should be C-USA v. Sun Belt.

CUSA is rotates the Hawaii Bowl so we only still play 2 CUSA schools.

I disagree with your opinion about firing the commissioner.
This bowl probably would replace the rotating bowls setup so we have a permanent bowl as the 6th bowl.
CT also got a primary backup for the Cactus Bowl.

Kroenke's LA stadium will probably have a bowl game, but that's four or five years down the road, and it might be a relocation of an existing game rather than adding another game to the schedule.

Boise could've stayed with the AAC...just saying.

What bowl would you think? I don't think it would be MW bowl. Perhaps the Cactus Bowl would relocate?
Why in the world would not the AAC and MWC match up in Az and CUSA/SB do Little Rock?

I've long thought that Boise should seriously consider the AAC, again. Boise, BYU, San Diego St. and one other western institution could make a lot of sense. Even a third, entirely new 6-team western division for the AAC.

It would make the American a truly national conference - and easily the best of the rest, and would grab the annual NY6 bowl bid.

They could eventually grab the Las Vegas and Poinsettia Bowls...may be also the (hopefully) new LA bowl.

Probably because Tuscon is in the middle of nowhere for our footprint. Too far to travel for a low end G5 game. If the MW was willing to do something in Texas, then it might make sense. Neither of us have teams in Arizona. Not sure why that location was selected.
We had a record high 80 teams last year that were bowl eligible. 42 bowls require more than that, and there aren't many teams being added to the pool. It's just a matter of time before we start inviting teams with losing records.

Agreed. May be McMurphy mixed up his information? Unfortunately, probably not the case....

Ynot, do you think BYU might try to get into the AZ bowl?
(03-30-2015 02:29 PM)msm96wolf Wrote: [ -> ]Why in the world would not the AAC and MWC match up in Az and CUSA/SB do Little Rock?

Because maybe C-USA is offering up a higher pick than AAC? I can see this game jumping all the way up to 2nd or 3rd in the C-USA bowl line-up, whereas the AAC might have it 6th or lower.

This helps UTEP, who travels very well, have an alternate to New Mexico. I think whatever bowl gets UTSA for its first bowl will be very happy with the turnout.

AC, I can't imagine the AAC is going to be happy about this especially if the LR is Pre Christmas.

Per ESPN,
The Arizona Bowl likely would be played between Christmas and early January, said Alan Young, chief operating officer for the Arizona Sports and Entertainment Commission. Fox Sports or CBS Sports Network is the most likely candidate to televise the Arizona Bowl, sources said.

The Little Rock bowl, which would be played at War Memorial Stadium, would pair teams from the American and Sun Belt conferences, sources said. CBS Sports Network or NBC Sports Network is the likely broadcast partner, sources said.

The one upside of being on a network other than ESPN is that virtually every conceivable broadcast window is open. ESPN owns the rights to virtually all the bowls---so they pretty much decide your broadcast window. The slots are very crowded and there are not many places for a new bowl. It would almost certainly have to be pre-Christmas if its going to be on ESPN. The Miami Bowl was pre-Christmas on a freaking Monday afternoon at 2pm if I remember correctly. I'll bet both of these new bowls are post Christmas in the evening. The one thing that HAS surprised me is the lack of interest by NBC and NBC-Sports. This was a great opportunity for NBC to pick up solid FBS football ratings and set themselves up to make a run at an FBS conference in the future.

Ga. Southern, App State, and Charlotte are coming through the pipeline now. Southern and Appalachian weren't bowl eligible last year. Niners first year in FBS this season. Potentially 1 or 2 more move ups is C-USA replaces UAB, Belt might add another.

Originally, very few bowl games were in locations that a conference had a footprint in (especially the northern ones) - they were travel destinations. Tucson in winter is very attractive for cold-weather schools - far more than any place in Texas, Arkansas, (anywhere there is not a good beach). And while the MWC doesn't have a team in Arizona, we still get a lot of cold-weather states fans wintering/travelling here.
