Nothing new here except possibility of playing at Bartow...
Wow. Al.com is whoring for clicks today. Doing reruns to draw people in.
Wow. I must click on that & read it.
I didn't see anything about playing at Bartow. If it's going to be home and home, we need to be on our own court. Period.

It was there.

"I'd like to combine some dates at Auburn and a date and a neutral site in Birmingham and perhaps play on their own campus and kinda mix together a contract over several years," Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said. "We're in the process of talking about it. They've put the situation on hold but it's something we both have interest in."
perhaps.
I would be all over a home and home and a game at BJCC. I would even give consideration to a two in Auburn, one at Bartow and one at BJCC.

Yep. That's where I would draw the line in the sand. And bartow has to come before the BJCC and one of the auburn games, plus we keep the gate at the BJCC. It is a good game to put on the schedule for attendance and a likely quality opponent moving forward. We don't need to turn this down unless they are being unreasonable.

Does a SportsMania mirror page count as a click for them?

He indicated that they were playing Mid Tenn in Birmingham - next year and might be the year to start at Auburn at tipoff club.

But Pearl is a PR spinner and and seems to omit facts in his statements, He tells about lying about BBQ but forgets to mention UT was found guilty of using burner phones, sending girls to recruits hometown, numerous improper benefits, visits and accused of much worst.

I would love it but we need to be careful
Bruce Pearl is nothing more than a snake oil salesman. UAB better be careful.
Yes, his secret plan might be to beat us in a game of basketball. Be very careful.
I was impressed with the BJCC basketball experience, especially Saturday. I don't have a problem with playing Auburn at the BJCC.

I'd rather bartow.

Reasons:

1. It's our true home court where everything is familiar for the players, etc.
2. Students can walk from campus easily to attend.
3. Seats are closer to the court-- this helps if we want to keep the arena loud.
4. Exclusivity can help promote attendance. If you know only 8K tickets are available, then you're more likely to buy your ticket early. Once you've bought your ticket, you're more likely to attend.

Duke still plays in cameron indoor for a reason.

I would rather be at Bartow as well... but I enjoyed watching UAB at the BJCC last week and wouldn't mind playing Auburn there.
To be honest, back in the 80‘s, I enjoyed UAB-Auburn at the BJCC more than at Bartow Arena. However, I am not sure it would transfer today.

The games at the BJCC for the most part in the 1980's were played the day before the Iron bowl at Legion Field. Crowd was half UAB and half Auburn and the air was electric. Once the Iron bowl left, it was mostly UAB crowd, which was great, but the electricity wasn't quite the same.

At Bartow, it was a whole lot less auburn fans , and again, less electricity.

I don't know what to expect from a UAB Auburn matchup today. I doubt it would fill BJCC
You would get 13,000 at most at the BJCC.

Even the games at Bartow had trouble selling out.

Decent crowds, but not a sellout.
I doubt it would draw more than 10,000 next season. Might change two or three or five years from now but if that game were played this past year I bet we would not have had 8,000. It's not Gene and Sonny. It's Hasse and Slime Ball.

Agree completely. As far as the argument about playing downtown, I have fond memories of the games at the BJCC. Probably correct to say it wouldn't fill up but then again im not so sure. Auburn is close to having a top ten recruiting class. Whatever you think of Pearl, he is a great promoter and has already generated a ton of renewed interest in that program. We are headed upward ourselves. William Lee himself will sell tickets. Another advantage of having a big time player like that. If that game is promoted well and tickets are reasonably priced I really think 16,000 could be reached next year.
Auburn IS going to play games in Birmingham. The city will have a lot of hot prospects in the next few years. WE don't need to sit back and let Auburn or Alabama come to Birmingham and own the city for a night when its our town. I admit ive always liked the idea of playing a game every year at the BJCC but I know im in the minority. But wherever its played lets sign the deal and do this. Go Blazers.
