I think it probably does unless it's followed up by a blow out loss.

A loss to Temple should end the season.
Decline the NIT bid. Its a stupid meaningless tournament. Besides, we'd be a lower seed and it would cost money to travel and Delta may not have a direct flight to Murray, KY.
I have the ultimate hope that we can go into the tourney, and win it all, but if that doesn't happen I almost hope the season would just be over.
We won't and shouldn't decline an NIT bid
We'll be in the NIT win or lose, some of you people are living in fantasy land. Come back to Earth and use your heads for a change
Memphis more than likely a 6th or 7th seed in the NIT if they win a couple games in the AAC Tournament...

SMU, Temple and Cinncinati are IN... Tulsa needs to make it to the championship game to secure their bid... If not, they will be snubbed.
Playing in a post season tournament is nothing but a positive for everyone. It helps with recruiting by giving us more TV exposure and it gives the players that are coming back next year post season experience, plus more practice time. Not to mention it gives me and other REAL fans more opportunities to watch our Tigers!

Go Tigers Go!!!
A loss to Temple makes Memphis 18-14. If teams like Murray State get snubbed by the ncaa then Memphis won't make the cut.
Memphis likely in even at 18-14...although a win would relieve some worry. While I did. It parse their schedules for specific wins...the RPI is a general reflection.

Last year...at large NIT teams...
LSU RPI 83, record 19-13
WV RPI 88, record 17-15

They may have had a big win but if they did they had some bad losses to end up with those RPI numbers. We are 18-13 right now with 81 RPI.

It is not a lock...but even with a Temple loss I would believe we would get an NIT bid, with a win then a loss really believe it and get to AAC finals we are in NIT and of course opportunity to make NCAA...against Tulsa, Cindy or ct most likely.
I don't think the NIT takes into consideration RPI as much as the NCAA does if at all when considering who to invite. I think the NIT would take us over some other schools because we have a bigger fan base that covers a larger marketing area and it is more so about the money and advertising than anything else with the non NCAA tournaments. So there's no doubt in my mind we are in. But it's still just my opinion.
Maybe.

But once they started taking regular season small conference champions it definitely put bigger name schools that have a down year on notice. I do not disagree with what they did, but would hate for our rebuilding year to end up outside the NIT. That would stink. Kids could use more competitive games...although we are highly unlikely to get a home NIT game should we make it.
Can't disagree about the home game but I do believe we should be in it and it's good for the school like I said before.
Last NIT game I went to was at the Tad Pad. Last one before that was against the Hokies in the Forum. Those games are relatively low key even with the Tigers and Ole Miss going at it.
If going to the NIT means playing Ole Miss down in Oxford then...NO...I am not for going to the NIT....Ole Miss WILL NOT BE GOING TO THE NCAA TOURNAMENT...I don't care what anyone says, after the loss at home Saturday night to Vanderbilt, the only place Ole Miss is going is to the NIT...What does that mean if you are a Tiger?...It means that if our home arena is tied up by the Grizzlies our ass's are going to be shipped down to Oxford for an NIT game - and you know that's going to happen...You just know it, dammit...Been dreading this junk happening since about mid January...At the end of the day, when all is said an done, I am for what's best for The University of Memphis...IT IS NOT IN OUR BEST INTEREST {at this particular time} TO PLAY OLE MISS IN OXFORD...IT'S JUST NOT...Have at me if you disagree...I'm a big boy and can take it..but..I will not change my mind on this....It's not in our best interest at this particular time to play them home or on the road....especially do not need to play them on the road.

shouldn't that be up to the coaches and players...not those who live in the burbs and complain on message boards?

Memphis earned it's NIT bid by sweeping UConn...the only question is seeding, and do we open at home?

I did the Memphis vs. Mississippi in Oxford (2010) and Memphis vs. Vandy at FedExForum (2005)

hell, I did the NIT Title parade in 2002 up Beale St.

Only Cal would have a parade for the NIT. 04-bow
Sad that we are sweating the nit, much less the ncaa. Just sad.
It is what it is.
