He's paid 20 million a year. His doctors have cleared him to play but doesn't, it seems, because he's afraid of another injury. Hence this quote >>>

“I know a lot of people get mad when they see me sit out or whatever, but I think a lot of people don’t understand that when I sit out, it’s not because of this year. I’m thinking about long-term,” he said after Tuesday’s practice. “I’m thinking about after I’m done with basketball having graduations to go to, having meetings to go to. I don’t want to be in my meetings all sore or be at my son’s graduation all sore just because of something I did in the past.”

Link was from November 2014. This injury is legit and required surgery.

It's a bummer. I'll assume this was posted in error, since he is clearly not cleared to play right now.
Man I thought for a minute I was in a time warp or something.
He needs to hang up the ADIDAS! They are poorly made shoes and are a total detriment to the power & athleticism that Poo has!

Opt out of that shoe deal & go UA!

lol
It is truly sad to watch Derrick now. He has heavy legs and his explosiveness is not nearly what is was. He was just a shadow of his prior self BEFORE this latest injury and I can't imagine him getting any better after.

Well, at least he's pretty darn wealthy and he doesn't seem to be an Antoine Walker type of guy who lost pretty much everything he had $$$-wise.

He has had the better part of two seasons injured and probably spent them building muscle in his legs. I think the explosiveness will come back if he can spend a year or two injury free and work his basketball muscles the way they were intended too. Also, players usually only fully return to form in the 2nd year after the injury. Rose has had 2 in 2 years.
He should take a page out of Anfernee Hardaway's book and get paid for sitting on the bench as long as he can.
They have actually set a time table on his return for the first time in his 3 injuries. He will likely be back before the playoffs.

Very similar circumstances but I wouldn't say Penny "took" the money. He wanted to play, could have played for some coaches.
