I dont mind it. Glad Umass is on a Saturday

Just not sure why we have to open on a Thursday when we have a whole month of week night games! Hate that we have 3 weeknight home games of 7 home games! Two in Nov with the one being Black Friday would have been acceptable.
Screw the MAC!!!!!!!!

3 TUESDAY GAMES IN NOVEMBER??????

This is ridiculous!!!!!!!!

Great point about attendance. Has the MAC determined that there is a significant enough ratings difference between a Saturday afternoon game and a Tuesday/Wednesday night game to make up for the loss of attendance and on-campus interest? What details were included to determine the current TV deal? The attendance (butts in the seats, not whatever phony number the schools announce as "official" attendance) has been abysmal and looks terrible on TV. Hell, the MAC doesn't even disclose details of the ESPN deal to its own schools! Would the TV deal really be significantly different if the games were on Saturday instead of Tuesday or Wednesday? The vague nature of the TV deal and the Animal Farm "some are more equal than others" money distribution is unsettling.

Playing in front of 100 people on a Tuesday night to earn 0.001 higher TV rating is a perfect example of cutting off the nose to spite the face.
Fan Plans and no more Rocket Fund donations for us. Not buying season tickets. ESPN wins, fans lose. Getting much easier to justify just sitting in front of the TV at home, staying warm, and getting a lot more sleep for work the next day. What a travesty for the local Rockets fan base. Don't need to worry about expanding the Glass Bowl's capacity anytime soon.
The exchange tickets are the only way to go. We use them all for homecoming.

I've given up on trying to get the same level of excitement for games. Our rival game is on Tuesday night in Bowling Green in November. The game for the championship has always been played on a Tuesday or Wednesday night for the last several years (ie vs. NIU) and it is difficult to justify an hour and a half drive each way for an 8pm kick-off and endure stupid coaching decisions, TV time-outs and freezing weather. BBW get's my game time dollars now.

I've wondered the same thing - has anyone gone through to justify this type of exposure. I thought this would go away after the first 10 year contract, but didn't they (the MAC) just sign on again for another 10 years with ESPN?

I have to say, I'm more excited about the upcoming Buckeye season than I am the Rocket's season. At least I can watch the full game if I want to. I'm usually DVR'ing the Rocket's game and watching the end of it the next morning before going to work. That is just a great fan experience.
UMass game is at Gillette. Was hoping it would be in Amherst

Why do they continue to set money on fire by playing at Gillette is beyond me. They're not going to fill the stadium on campus, so why keep playing in an expensive pro stadium? At least there would be a good atmosphere on campus.
gilette is playing more toward boston area alums and the pro stadium facade than the local fan base.
Somebody posted a vid of the "fat punter" TD years ago in a CMU-BG game. I assumed the game was at CMU when I saw the huge mob of Chip fans going wild. It was at BG. You don't see travel like that anymore. Week nights are fine for aging retirees who's' lives are all but over anyway, but they suck for the rest of you.

Someone who goes to the Downtown Coaches meetings should ask O'Brien these questions and give us a report. 04-bow

Normally we would have six home games, this year we have seven. Usually when we have six home games we might have three or four Saturday games. This year we have four Saturday games and one Friday game. If this was a six game schedule that would be pretty darn good! If you don't work on Saturday the day after thanksgiving then the Friday night match up is good. One Tuesday night home game isn't bad in my opinion. Last year NIU had five home games and they only had two Saturday games, that stinks. I am glad the other two Tuesday night games are on the road because most of us watch the away games on TV anyhow.
Week night games in general suck and are horrible for players and fans alike. Glad we have 7 hone games but having the UT vs BG game on a Tue. is a travesty of majestic porportions. Would love to take my kids, but no go on a school nite. No family tailgating.
Remember years ago, the big uproar over playing 1 game an a Friday? "That's high school day!" 01-lauramac2 03-hissyfit

Then a couple Fridays, then Friday and Thursday, then Friday, Thursday, and Wednesday.

Now we're up to three Tuesdays and two Fridays.

Monday's can't be far off. Then what's after that? Morning games on weekdays?
