Saw someone tweet out that the winner will clinch at least a share of the regular season title. That wouldn't be the case if UTEP went 1-3 though, right? Damn numbers confuse me.

For UAB to have a piece of the title, we'd have to have La Tech go no better than 1-2 and UTEP no better than 2-2. Sucks that of their 7 games only 1 is an away game for either team.
It seems that I keep seeing people post lots of crazy possibilities of what needs to happen for us to win the regular season title. Those may be true in order to get a 1 seed, but in terms of getting a share of the title, we need 3 things to happen: 1) UAB needs to win out, 2) La Tech needs to lose one more, 3) UTEP needs to lose one more

Since UTEP and La Tech play each other tonight, someone is guaranteed to get to 4 losses tonight (along with UAB). That means that whoever wins tonight just needs to lose 1 of their remaining games for UAB to win a share of the title. Again, assuming that UAB wins out.

I believe we need UTEP to lose 2 because they hold the tie breaker against us.
A shared title will be a point of pride, especially considering the first part of the season. However, it doesn't get us anything. It will not get us the #1 seed, and likely won't get us an NIT automatic bid.

So you're saying there is a chance!

Does overall record determine the seeding if there is a tie?

Not to win a share of the title. Regular season title is determined by record. Tie breakers only used to determine seeding.

Naturally I would like the 1 seed too but that is a taller order. A share of the regular season title would be a huge accomplishment in and of itself for a team with such youth.
It doesn't seem like it would in C-USA...

I guess we need to be hoping La Tech beats UTEP and then goes down one more time against another opponent.

However, seeing that La Tech has 3 more games, that only leaves them 2 more chances to lose. UTEP winning tonight would likely need to lose twice to put UAB at an undisputed #1, assuming of course we also win out.

Both happening are rather unlikely, but at least unless the bottom falls out in the last 3 games, we SHOULD play our first game Thursday of the tournament!
It's almost a foregone conclusion that we will be the 3 seed at this point. We just need to focus on getting better heading into the postseason.

I would love to share a title, but that would require a monumental upset to occur. Not impossible, but unlikely.

It's not overall record. Last year, Southern Miss had a better record than La Tech, and both tied for #1 along with Tulsa and MTSU. Tulsa won the conference tourney. La Tech got the NIT automatic, I assume because they were the higher seed in the conference tournament and USM got an NIT at Large. MTSU was shut out.

If we tie for first place, I suspect that the highest seed not going to the NCAA tournament will get the NIT automatic bid. No chance we get an NIT at large bid.
Don't think a share of the title is that far-fetched. Still requires some help from the group of USM, Rice, UNT, UTSA. Rice, UNT, and UTSA are teams right in the middle of the pack that have shown capacity to beat the top teams (even on the road).

Bottom line is that if we have hopes for postseason play, we really need to win the CUSA tournament. That's the option most within our control at this point.
Isn't this point in the thread where someone says something pithy like, "Just win, baby!"?
There. I said it.
If I'm understanding correctly now, tie breakers do not apply to determine regular season champions. With that being said, having UTEP with tonight and dropping 1 of their last 3 is our best chance.

No, they don't, but tiebreakers are used to determine who gets NIT automatic bids.

Got it. I'll take a championship for pride if nothing else. It would be great for the coaches and young players.
It's odd, but at this point, we have a better chance of playing in the NCAA tournament than we do in the NIT.
3 ball falling for Tech. May be a long night for the Miners.
La Tech up 16.
So if we finish with the same CONFERENCE record as either UTEP or la tech, we will be "co-champions?" The tie breakers aren't used to declare an outright champion in the even of a tie?
Event*
Correct. We have to win out and LT needs to drop one of their final 2 home games. Unlikely at this point though. Won't be surprised if we drop another game
