Me too. I tend to go and stay the whole weekend regardless of my team's performance. Cleveland is a surprisingly fun city and there's plenty to do around the arena.
I wish they would start moving the tournament around. The new arena in Detroit will be open in two years, Nationwide Arena in Columbus, All-State Arena in Chicago are suitable places for the tournament.
Cleveland is in the midst of a tremendous revival. They also embrace the conference in a way that no other tournament-suitable city has shown. Moving the tournament from there would be a huge mistake.
Nine more years in Cleveland. I like it. End of discussion.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Shocking..... The Akron and Kent fans don't want to move from Cleveland when other places are just as good or better.
Isn't Cleveland ALWAYS on the verge of a big revival? Haven't been there in a year but last I was I was not impressed. Still, probably as good a place as any.

Go to the west side of Cleveland and try the city of Lakewood. GREAT food and fun atmosphere and not far from downtown.

Ohio City, Detroit Shore way, and even Tremont have some interesting places to see or taste as well.

And where are these just as good or better places? Please don't say Indianapolis!

Seeing that the Big Ten has a rotation in Indy it doesn't work. First would be Detroit when the new arena is built. Second would be Columbus at Nationwide Arena. Third would be the All State Arena in Chicago. You could also throw Grand Rapids and Van Andel Arena into the mix as well.
Cleveland just made the top places to visit list from Travel and Leisure. It was only one of I think 12 US cities to make the list. The city is doing a lot better (at least for now) and people are moving into downtown again. The whole city isn't getting the benefits but all the parts the MAC tournament will deal with are.

All better than the cesspool that is Cleveland.

The more I think of the tourney, except for the DOUBLE byes (I'd give the top 4 teams a single bye), I like it:

1). As the top four teams do not play early on, the campus round is 5 - 12 and gives us potentially competitive matchups. A 'typical' 8-team tourney of 1/8, 2/7, etc. likely has a terrible mismatch or two (e.g., Kentucky #1 vs. a weak sister).

2). The four winners will play the other winners from the #5 - #12 pool in CLE. Parity should reign as 'on paper' the winners could be say #5 - #8.

3). Then those two winners play seeds #3 and 4. This year there isn't much difference between the #3 and 4 seeds and say seeds #5 and 6. The quarterfinals again could be evenly matched.

4). Again, the semis should be pretty evenly matched.

What we eliminate is the prospect of a top team, say top 25 or 40, playing a team ranked lower than 300 in the first round in a game which does nothing good for anyone...

Please, tell me why you think that any of those options would come anywhere remotely close to what we have in Cleveland.

CLE is by far the best site the MAC has had, including being in the city where the MAC offices are located. Good idea to extend.

Akron and Kent do have an 'advantage' because it is close and easy to gin up fan support.

IF (and I'm NOT recommending it) the MAC looked to rotate the tourney, Detroit would be worth a look.

The new arena would draw interest and would be a + for fans from say Toledo, BG, CMU, EMU, WMU, etc. who would find its location very appealing (Toledo fans would support it big time and metro Detroit has large number of alums, students, etc. for C/E/WMU.).

I'd be curious what the draw would be for say a Toledo/CMU final if the new Detroit arena was built and the MAC tourney was held there this year?

Would that game draw 10 - 12K??? More?
The MAC just re-upped for another EIGHT YEARS in Cleveland. Safe to say there is no impetus to move, rotate, or change the venue. Eight years is an eternity in the current climate of college sports. It's quite a commitment.

The real advantage KSU and Akron have had by playing in Cleveland is that they most often brought the best teams there. The best teams will generally bring more fans. Toledo, Buffalo, Ohio, and Miami have brought good crowds when they had good teams as well. When KSU had off years, their proximity certainly didn't help them much. And in the Hipsher years at Akron, it did them little good to be closer, too. I'll take a better team every time as opposed to one who just happens to be fewer miles to the arena.
I'm more asking a hypothetical question:

E.g., would Toledo fans turn out in record number to drive 50+ miles to downtown Detroit vs. 100+ miles to go to CLE?

Ditto for fans of say BG, EMU, CMU, WMU, etc. (last year EMU, Toledo and WMU were in the semis or finals - what would it been like if the tourney would have been in Detroit - if the new arena was built - versus the long trek to CLE.).

P.S. If anyone doesn't know what I'm referring: Detroit has broken ground for a new arena a couple blocks away from Comerica Park. It will be finished in 2017.
