Kindergarten teacher charged with drinking in class

Quote:ANKEY, Iowa -- A kindergarten teacher was arrested Monday for allegedly having alcohol in her classroom. According to CBS affiliate KCCI, police say two empty cans of beer and four full cans were found in the classroom of teacher Jennifer Rich, after a parent noticed one can of beer during a Valentine's Day party.

Rich, 40, has been charged with public intoxication and child endangerment after police said she tested positive during a preliminary breath test, and a bag in her classroom held a total of six beer cans.

Chief Human Resource Officer Jenifer Owenson said the school district put Rich on administrative leave immediately, according to the station. She also said the school conducted its own investigation, and gave Rich the option to resign.

The Ankeny School Board accepted her resignation Monday night, KCCI reports.

"The principal has been in touch with all of the parents over the weekend and assured them that their children were never in any kind of harm," Owenson said.

Rich's profile, which has now been taken down from the school's website, said she's been teaching in Ankeny, about 10 miles from Des Moines, since 2001. Owenson said the school had no indication that this was an ongoing problem in the classroom.

Parents said they just hope this will be a wake-up call.

"Maybe she'll get the help she needs now," said Paul Dullard, father of one student.

"Hopefully the kids can just recover and keep going," mother Stacy Dullard told KCCI.

School officials said students in that classroom will now have a long-term substitute teacher, and the school is keeping an eye on the students to make sure they adjust well to the change.

She looks freakin crazy. *shudders*
Okay, exactly why do the kids need to "recover"? I doubt they're emotionally scared from this.

I wish I could tell you guys the stories about my 10th grade english teacher.....

just know she was hot and I got to play with her daughter too.....

oh my, the mammories <sic>
I had a language arts teacher in middle school that should have retired long before I ever got to her class. Students would make her cry regularly. I felt bad for her and stuck up for her on more than one occassion.

Rumors were that she kept a bottle of Vodka in her desk.

that had to suck....teaching that is....not surprised one bit....

"I'm underpaid and have to babysit little shites with little shite parents".....

yep, that idea crossed her mind a tad too late.....
Why was she arrested? I can see violating some sort of booze policy the school had but that's about it.

I had a fifth grade teacher that used to make the kids cry.

And my friends used to get physically beaten at their Catholic school.

Teaching is best job in the world if you know how to connect with the kids. When you lose that, it's hell.
You can't fake it with kids. If they know you don't love your job, they'll eat you alive.

philanthropically, it has to be up there in 'effort/result/satisfaction'....unfortunately, not all students are the same in personality and ability.....that's the crux of why people have to alter their chemistry regardless of occupation...(not implying they have to do it on the job)

the story itself is sad like so many others relative to occupation....

I think someone needs some sensitivity training.
If the kids are scarred it's from looking at that teacher. :-)

The pussification on America on display if they think these kids have to 'adjust' or 'recover' from this. Bigger question is why even tell the kids why she's gone? Just say personal issues and let it be.

I know it's unusual for me to be serious or deal with micro issues on this board.....but I'm gonna take a whack at it with a simple logical progression how screwed up things have always been....

all kids are not the same..... all parents are not the same....

a teacher has to be a child of someone either living or dead

continuing the progression it is illogical to conclude that we are robots....

this is real world life shite......and it's been happening since we took to two instead of four....

nothing surprises me anymore.....

I sometimes think that the boys/men that fought for our freedoms would shoot the lot of us....at a minimum, they would definitely call us poosies for 'letting' the gov't evolve into the ticking time bomb it has become....

kids know before things happen.....they're not all stupid and they can't shut their yammer....bullies....girl hair tug fights.....gay teachers that hit on students.....straight teachers that hit on students.....

we are raising a group of vaginas that have zero clue how to cope with reality....it's smokingly the gun that's gonna bring this way of life down

some people succeed....some fail.....it will always be that way until we become machines.....there isn't another option until that happens.....that's the lunacy of it all....

I have only come up with one thought why to always vote 'red'.....all men are NOT created equal....I want the smartest to survive....and the smartest now have the opportunity to make money in historical terms relative to 'ruler of zee land'....and it's always about money....

I guess I failed that test 03-wink

Having alcohol at a school is a crime, not merely a violation of school policy... at least in many/most states.

not my senior year....

my teachers were happy when I showed up drunk.....they knew I would just snooze through the bs......they were happier when I didn't show....((btw, it's missippy, and I only took the 4 core my sr year....I told the principal to screw himself when I submitted the request ("you can't 'just' do that") .....it was as easy as telling him I would sue the school district)) I graduated 3rd in my class w/o trying.....

however, thank you for the 'captain obvious' post in the year 2015

things like this bring back memories of 'smear the queer'.....it was just unadulterated fun when bones were broken and blood was shed.....simpler times they were.....men were raised and held accountable

.....and we didn't have to use guns

disclaimer: I'm not doggin' ya (I can easily see how one would think I was)....just addressing the pussification aspect of it all.....
