not sure how to respond to be honest....

there is a part of me that likes the interest relative to capitalism and science....

there is the other side that thinks it's 'bat shite suicide with zero return' (as they admitted relative to "killed")

off the top of my head, I don't see return value.....however, it's 2015 and I'm almost 50....

I personally think all monies should be devoted to alternative energies stat.....to offset the dependence upon oil...

let me also toss in investing in desalination once again for the west side.....

Thoughts on building a colony on Mars?

I'm into astronomy, but honestly, I don't know what to think. It's like a lot of tourist destinations, it'd be neat to check it out, but you wouldn't want to live there.

Yeah, while I find it intriguing, knowing it's a one way trip would be enough for me not to want to go. I don't really see the point in it either.

What happens if there's a fight or someone gets mad and breaks someone elses neck? Do they get chained to a stake or get a hole drilled in their helmet?

There you go... Fun to visit but I'd have to return. I still don't know why you can't go there for a week and then come back.

...just too many variables.....I could come with sadistic gay guy in hiding.....

however, I hate to come with the 'fk it' attitude.....

we wouldn't be in our current state of 'wealth' if we didn't move forward....

IMO, it's all relative to technological progression.....we just can't stop for a variety of reasons....

I guess I'm indifferent while impressed this has become an option during the breathing span.....

Pretty sure that Mars and Earth have to be aligned properly, otherwise it would take a prodigious amount of fuel to go from one to the other. And IIRC that takes a year and a half or 2 years. Now if we got better engine technology to cut down on the commute time it might be a different story.

The last time I read about this, it mentioned something about the atmosphere or the air of Earth and Mars, and said you couldn't breathe here any longer after you'd been on Mars.

You'd be useless then, because you couldn't reproduce... And you'd probably beat everyone up. Lol...

I'm not sure how that would work. On Mars you'd have to be provided oxygen and air pressure just like on Earth, so I don't know how that would keep you from going back to Earth.
Do you need a ship that replicates gravity so the body won't atrophy?

And even on Mars, weight is .38 of what you would weigh be on Earth.
Mars ain't the kind of place to raise a kid. But yea I'd go. Seeing as I don't have any kids.
I think it would be pretty cool.

But, history will only remember the first guy off the boat, not the 87th guy.

Imagine the wrinkles on a 50 year old on Jupiter, hypothetically speaking of course.

At 235 pounds, I'd be 555.5 pounds.

Now imagine if you grew up on Jupiter and came to Earth. I wonder how high I'd be able to jump. On Mars, I'd be 88.5 pounds.

And on the Sun, I'd be 6361.9 pounds. My bones would probably snap crackle and pop. We'd all be piles of mush, if we could land there.

Dick.

That song is stuck in my head now.

And all the science, I don't understand.

hence, relative gravity based on our composition...

not meaning to get off topic, but since the board is somewhat biblical.....

if the the world at one time was actually flooded based on the noah story, what would be the impact upon the flesh that was left on the ark?

(you know I'm not fkn with ya....it's a valid question based on how it would impact atmospheric pressure....just sayin')

I tye-die things together at times (60s pun intended) 03-wink
