Full Version: Calling Former Band Members - We Need You in Montgomery

We need former band members and anyone who can play a musical instrument to form an alumni band for our Rally on the State House steps in Montgomery March 10. (See my post about the rally.) We tried unsuccessfully to get the University to allow members of the UAB marching band to accompany us in Montgomery, but as you can imagine, that wasn't to be. So we need former band members to form an alumni band.

If you are a former band member or know someone who was. PM me so we can get a group together. Please also contact your fellow band members who do not frequent this board and get them involved as well.

Please PM me as soon as possible so we can get this organized. As I am sure you understand, this is damn important.

So, the admin did not allow UAB-supplied instruments to be used (petty, but it is their stuff), or did they use intimidation to infringe the free speech rights of UAB students?

We need music. We fight with rhythm.

I would rather not get into the details on the board, but let's just say the larger instruments belong to the University and the band members are on scholarship. The Bring Back Blazer Football steering committee agrees with you that it would be very useful if we have a band, even a small one, for the rally in Montgomery. That why we are making this effort.
Jeff, I received your message - check for a private message I just sent you.

Also, band kids are students that have class on weekday mornings. With it not being an official performance, there would be no excuses absences from classes that take attendance.

I bet some current students will find their way there.

Hopefully most professors will work around this event to allow students to attend.
Come on folks, I know that we have more former band members on the board. Or at least we have folks who know folks who were in the band.
The band has really, really made a difference in every street protest we've held. We need a band. The band and the ponytails have been our strength. We need them both.

Plus, we know that Ray hates hearing the band at protests. Wouldn't want Ray to feel we'd forgotten him.
I would love to join the pep band as an alumni, but I'm an alumni of one of those "larger instrument" sections.
Cajun,
Has this been posted on the FB group? If not, we should post it there and involve Kris Findlay And others. You may have done the latter, but I haven't seen this on the FB group.
I was a member of the Marching Blazers for one football season, but I played tuba and live out of state. Unfortunately, I won't be any help.

So do we have the green light to push this publicly on Twitter and Facebook, or should I just be calling and private messaging people individually?

Well, it's on the board, so it is public information. I don't think that putting on Twitter and Facebook is going to due any further damage if it will help your recruitment efforts to reach more alumni band members. I mean, what can the BOT do to counter our rally, hire a bunch of goons to chant. "The BOT is great!"?
