Maybe the last, best chance for a W tonight at 8. Gonna be even tougher without Moeller. He went home to Denmark for a while since his mom had a stroke.

I was ready to post about tonight's game and then stopped my posts. But since KH has brought it up, here goes. Checked the BSC standings for LU with records as follows:

9th Campbell 3-9 conf, 9-16
10th Longwood 3-9 conf, 7-18
11th Liberty U 0-12 conf, 6-19

Liberty plays Longwood at home Feb. 17. It's either tonight against Campbell or Feb. 17 vs. Longwood, both home games, or we'll be shut out. Let's get this year over, get a new coach and move on, winning these or not.
I still think he gets another year. Injuries.
Defection to go home - Bonds.
2 years left on contract.

Could be wrong, but that is my take.

Just don't believe Layer gets his last year. One wonders if we were 91-6 and 12-0 in conference play if Moller would be gone now depending on the severity of his mom's illness.

A stroke (my mom had one) is very serious and to be taken serious. If his mom is ill and out of the country everybody will support his actions.

When a bad team is mired in poor play like LU, it may have made his decision to take a leave of absence easier to make.
I hope that his mother gets well soon and back to 100%. I can't imagine being in his shoes. I applaud him for putting family first.

As for Layer and his job security, I think he either gets fired (99%) or gets an extension (1%). You can't have a lame duck head coach. He may only coach here one more season but his contract will be longer. Recruits won't commit to a school if the guy recruiting them may not be around.
I can't see DL being there next year. The Vines will be empty again and it's just putting off the inevitable. I could see a position being created for DL in the athletic office.

I don't think he will be here as head coach either but stranger things have happened. There is a case that can be made that he lost his top scorer, point guard, and freshman for the entire conference schedule (and more).

I would find it hard to believe that Layer would stay and help at the school while working for his replacement. The only reasons he would stay is that his son is on the team and he supports the mission of Liberty. But I'd have to imagine he'd at least get an assistant job somewhere and he'd take it.

Layer accepting another position within the athletic dept., and not as next year's coach seems a likely action. I see no way he can return next year. AD Barber would lose credibility, it would hamper the FBS quest, and be a negative perception to overcome if something is not done. Layer being fired/reassigned/resigning will be less a repercussion than if he is retained the final year of his contract. I'll be watching tonight hoping they can pull one off this evening. We're losing opportunities to win a conference game this year.
Second half just under way. LU down by 5. 40-35 17:19 left
Kemrite cuts it to 2 with an open 3
Another 3 from Kemrite puts LU up by 1, and then Drew with a dunk to make it 3. THEN KEMRITE hits his 3rd 3 in a row. 46-40 LU! From 8 down to 6 up!
Kemrite was 4-4 from 3 and just missed one. 49-42 LU 11:58 left! Biggest lead of the conference season!

By far the best game they have played this year. LU up by 7 with 11:58 to go. This seems to be the one that LU is going to win.
Let's go boys! Keep up the winning mojo! I forgot what it was like to win a basketball game.
up by 13 with 7:35 to go.

With everything that has gone on this year it's great to see them playing hard, with intensity to win. Only 10 TOs so far for LU. There is an energy in their step in this game that I have not seen. Go Flames!!!. Up by 11 with 6:50 to go.
Up 9 with 3:57 to go.
So happy with how Dembley has played tonight
12 point lead with 1:12 to play!

The freshman Dembley has played a smart game tonight. Kudos to him.
