Birdsong: 3 points the morning after UAB's 71-69 loss at Texas-El Paso

Birdsong uploaded a pretty good fan video to the bottom of his "3 points" blog post. The out of bounds play to set up Nick Norton's three-pointer was excellent, as was Norton's quick pass to Lee for the missed three-pointer at the buzzer. Can't believe UTEP only got called for nine fouls the whole game. Complete crap.
In the grand scheme of things, tomorrow's game isn't that important. If we want to win this conference, it's vital. We are 1 game back from the leaders and we get to play them both. Young teams like ours have to learn how to finish a game on the road. We are getting there. I like where we are at this time.

As a Miner fan said on the CUSA board, they didn't play tight enough defense to foul much more than that. We played bad defense at times too, but we fouled them to keep them from scoring. They usually let us score.

There are no rules that says the fouls must be even to mean its is a well officiated game. I thought for the most part, the refs called a decent game. We just fouled more.
There was also a stretch when we missed three layups in a row, which should have gone in, whether we were fouled or not.

Also, I noticed early in the game that we were not guarding their 7 footer at the top of the key. No one within ten feet of him. I suspect Haase saw he was 0-9 from three for the year and told them to ignore him. Then he burned us with a wide open three he had all day to take. If someone has taken 9 threes, you have to suspect there is some confidence he can make them. Shouldn't have left him open. That shot was the difference,
To me, the play that made a huge difference in the game was when we got the block off the backboard and Cokley had the rebound secured Hunter stole it from behind lay-up and 1 makes the free throw. After the game ended I kept going back to that.

Also, when Hunter was waiting at the scorers table to re-enter the game at the 10 minute mark and Norton missed a wide open corner 3 that would have put us up 10 or 11 with 10 to play. I knew once that beast got back in they would make their charge.
I also thought it was a well officiated game. One of the better ones this year. Our youth was a huge contributing factor for those fouls.

There were a couple missed calls both ways but I can live with that. It happens. UAB has no one to blame but themselves. I think UAB takes them in the tourney.

Wow. Maybe the first time we have agreed about officiating. 03-lmfao
